ROVAL Qualifying
Round 1 – Report

Duration: 25 minutes (Top 12 advance)

7 minutes into round one, Daniel Suarez wheel hops into the backstretch chicane. He skids across the curb before heading to the pits.

12 minutes in, Chase Elliott is trending into the green as he comes into the final corner. He wheels hops into turn 16 and turns around backwards. It’s near identical to what his teammate Jimmie Johnson did on the final corner in the race last year.

Halfway in round one, Kyle Larson sits at the top of the board.

Jimmie Johnson is all over the curb into turn 16. He made it work though as the left side wheels lifted a foot off the ground. He lands and falls 2nd on the board.

9 minutes remain in round one, Daniel Suarez is back on track for a 2nd attempt. His last attempt was 34th. He cooks the back stretch chicane once again. He stays out for another lap and lands 11th.

2 minutes remain, Martin Truex Jr is 9th quickest but he’s back on the track to make another run. Chase Elliott is back out as well. Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski are on track for his first laps.

Final seconds, Daniel Suarez is back on track for a third run in this session alone. He’s 13th on the board, one spot out. No improvement in this run for Suarez.

William Byron is quickest at the conclusion of round one in NASCAR qualifying!

Clint Bowyer overshoots the backstretch chicane as the backend steps out. He drives over the curb and coasts to the pits without completing his lap. They’ll need to cool it off and send him back out.

3 minutes remain, Kyle Larson steps it sideways into the backstretch chicane! He heads to the pits.

2 minutes left, Byron to the top of the board! All of Team Hendrick are hard on the curbs through the chicanes but they’re making it work.
