Martin Truex Jr failed pre-qualifying inspection twice ahead of this session. NASCAR has ejected a crew member as a result.

Qualifying – Report
Laps: 2
Group A is set by the bottom 20 qualifiers last week. Their order in this session is set at random.
The track record is under attack today. The new NASCAR rules package has added significant downforce on track a mile and under. The corner speeds are up 10-12 mph over last year.
Reed Sorenson was slowest in practice on Friday with a 24.379. He’s the first car on the track in this session with a 23.359. Nearly a full second quicker than yesterday.
Denny Hamlin is the first car to break the track record. He smashed it by a tenth and a half at 21.559 seconds.
Kurt Busch only ran one lap. Most are turning quick laps on their first, but not all.
Chase Elliott held the previous track record. That was set earlier this year.

MENCS Qualifying
Group B will see the top 20 qualifiers from last week. Their order is also set at random.
This track changes rapidly as rubber gets laid down. Typically, it slows down as sessions go on. It could be a significant advantage to run in group A.
Kyle Busch is sideways into turn one on his first lap. He keeps it under him on lap two but he’s late to the throttle.
Kyle Larson has been quick all weekend. He’s in the green on his first lap but loses it off turn four. He can’t improve on lap 2, Larson is 2nd so far.
“I told Denny a few days ago that I was going to get the pole,” Kyle Larson tells NBC with a laugh.
Harvick shuts it down on his 2nd lap. He’s fourth on the board with just a few cars remaining.
Alex Bowman gets one lap in. He wiggles on the 2nd and shuts it down.
Denny Hamlin will start from the pole position at Dover International Speedway!
