Zach Daum is 2nd in National Midget standings but has called it quits with three races to go
The POWRi National Midget schedule has completed 30 races of a 33 race schedule.
Zach Daum currently trails Jesse Colwell by just 50 points. The two drivers were set to head into the final two races of the season in a heated battle for the championship.
Dohm was about to load up his machine on Thursday. That’s when he decided to pull the plug.
Zach Daum on concussion symptoms
“I should be finishing loading up my trailer to race tonight. But Unfortunately I won’t be at the leffler or I-30 this weekend,” Dohm stated in a facebook post.
“Last weekend at Marion and Belleville I jarred up some old concussion symptoms again. Looking back I think the Humbolt crash brought them back and I’ve tried to push them away. I’ve noticed small things but just chalked it up to stress and other things going on.”
“But during the feature at Marion I was dizzy, disoriented and didn’t know where I was the majority of the feature. I knew better then to race at belleville and I’ve always preached that if your hurt you don’t race.”
“But I got caught up in the points chase and thinking I could handle it. There wasn’t 1 lap in the feature that I wasn’t dizzy. My depth perception was off. I was scared to race around anybody. It was stupid.”
“I put other people in danger over something I knew better then to be doing. I can’t get out of bed and turn my alarm clock off without getting dizzy. What made me think I could drive a racecar?”
“With that being said thanks to some good friends, I have an appointment at UPMC on the 30th for these concussions. Hopefully after this appointment I will have a game plan moving forward to finally cure these concussions problems I’ve had for the last couple years.”
