Kansas Speedway: Inspection issues, ejections

Two NASCAR crew members ejected from Kansas Speedway; Kevin Harvick not allowed to qualify

This weekend, NASCAR unloads at the 1.5-mile oval of Kansas Speedway.

On Friday, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series rolled to the track for two rounds of practice. Today, they’re set to set the starting lineup via qualifying.

The race will take place on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Kansas.

This is an impound race. That means that cars roll through inspection before qualifying and after the race. Officials impound the cars after qualifying and little changes can be made between qualifying and the race itself.

It’s an important race weekend as it’s a cutoff race in the NASCAR Playoffs. 12 drivers are currently eligible in the fight for the championship. After this weekend, only 8 will remain.

Martin Truex Jr
Inspection issue

Former series champion, Martin Truex Jr is one of those drivers fighting for a championship. However, he ran into issues this morning in qualifying.

The Joe Gibbs Racing No 19 car of Martin Truex Jr has failed pre-qualifying inspection, twice. The result is an ejected crew member. The selection of the crew member is per NASCAR’s discretion. They have elected to eject the car chief.

This is a bit of a trend. Truex Jr was the last driver in the NASCAR Playoffs to fail inspection. He failed just two weeks ago at Dover Speedway.

The NASCAR team was able to pass inspection on the third attempt. If they didn’t, the No. 19 team wouldn’t have been allowed to qualify.

Martin Truex Jr will also lose 15 minutes of practice at Martinsville Speedway.

Kevin Harvick
Kansas Speedway inspection

Kevin Harvick has a brand new car this weekend at Kansas Speedway.

He rolled through inspection the first time, he failed. The team then rolled the car through inspection a second time, they passed.

However, the team saw something on the car they did not like. The team elected to fail themselves as they went back to replace something in the driveshaft area.

As they rolled through inspection again, they failed.

As a result, Kevin Harvick has lost his car chief ahead of qualifying. Additionally, he will not be allowed to qualify.

Kevin Harvick will also lose 15 minutes of practice at Martinsville Speedway.

NASCAR qualifying is set to take place within the hour.
