Chase Elliott will start at the rear of the field. He blew an engine five minutes into the opening round of practice. He’s still fighting for pit stall section in this session.

Qualifying – Report
Laps: 2
Group A consists of the bottom 20 qualifiers from the previous week. Their order in this session is set at random draw.
Kevin Harvick is the fourth car to qualify. He gets loose off turn four on his second lap. The second lap will likely be the fastest lap for most.
Denny Hamlin didn’t make a qualifying run in practice. But, he’s expected to be one of the cars to beat tomorrow.
Hamlin is glued to the bottom lane, lower than anyone so far. He jumps to the top of the board by a tenth and a half of the 14 to qualify thus far.
Ross Chastain locks up the left front wheel into turn one on his second lap. He pushes up the minimal banked and shuts it down to conclude group A qualifying.
Denny Hamlin is quickest so far in NASCAR Cup Series qualifying.

Group B are the top 20 qualifiers from the previous week. Their order is also at random. It gets cooler by the minute which should be an advantage.
Matt Tifft was transported to a local hospital before practice this morning. Tifft has since been released from the hospital and is back home. Matt Crafton will qualify the car. He narrowly misses the top 10 of the cars so far.
Kyle Busch completed his first lap, 8th on the board. He missed the bottom into turn one on his second lap.
Chase Elliott is trending in the green on his lap. The car steps out a little off turn four on his final lap. He narrowly misses the pole. But, Elliott will start at the tail regardless.
Denny Hamlin will start from the pole position in the First Data 500 at Martinsville Speedway!
