Next up, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is set for the green flag in the First Data 500. The 0.526-mile paperclip oval of Martinsville Speedway hosts the first race in the Round of 8.

The track is located in Ridgeway, Virginia. If a playoff driver wins this race, they’ll advance into the Championship race in Miami.

Four drivers have been sent to the rear. Each of them ran into pre-race inspection issues earlier this morning.

Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott qualified on the front row. However, after a blown engine in practice, Chase Elliott will be sent to the rear. Aric Almirola will move up to the front row as they head to the starting line.

Martinsville Race
Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 130 (1-130)

Green flag, Denny Hamlin leads on the bottom lane into turn one. Martin Truex Jr follows him through and takes over 2nd. They run three wide just inside the top 10.

Lap 11, Kevin Harvick had a run into turn one, Larson pulls down to block. They make heavy contact as Harvick doesn’t lift. Larson gets sideways but they both continue. They head into turn three. Harvick doors him, pushes him up the track. Larson is sideways again and Harvick takes over the 15th position.

Lap 28, the caution is out for debris.

Pit stops

Denny Hamlin leads the field to the pit lane. Truex wins the race off the pit lane as Hamlin falls to 5th at pit exit.

Green, Martin Truex Jr leads on the bottom. Ryan Blaney holds 2nd off turn two.

Lap 81, Chase Elliott has been entering both corners high. He then cuts to the bottom for a late apex and a better drive off. He’s doing that to make the straight aways longer and pull cross over moves off the corner as he drives from the back to the front. Chase Elliott just cracked the top 10 after starting 34th.

Lap 100, Denny Hamlin climbed from 5th to 2nd quickly after the last restart. He now sits 1.7 seconds back of Martin Truex Jr. The gap to the leader is increasing as Hamlin works lap cars and Ryan Blaney is all over him for 2nd.

10 to go in stage one, Martin Truex Jr leads Denny Hamlin by 3 seconds. Truex is on the bumper of Kyle Larson to put 17th a lap. He works by and laps his Playoff competitor.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 130 (131-260)

The field returns to the pit lane. Truex is first in and first off.

Green flag on stage 2, Truex picks the outside. That’s planned as Hamlin checks up on the inside to let him in. Clint Bowyer is on the gas around the top, he beats Hamlin to turn one. Bowyer takes over 2nd as Hamlin falls to 4th.

Lap 150, Alex Bowman pits for right side tires due to a loose wheel.

Matt DiBenedetto looks inside of Austin Dillon with Erik Jones outside of Dillon. Dillon pinches DiBenedetto and he gets tagged in the left rear. Dillon skates up the track and into Erik Jones who is sent for a slide. All cars continue.

Lap 178, Ty Dillon tried to get to the bottom. Daniel Hemric was already there. Dillon drove him onto the curb and Dillon went around.

Pit stops

The field heads for the pit lane. Truex is first in and first off. Bowyer is off 2nd and Hamlin falls to 7th with another slow stop.

Problems for Chase Elliott! He returns to the pit lane with a broken axle. The race is going green.

Green, Martin Truex Jr leads. Bowyer and Blaney bang fenders for 2nd, Bowyer takes that spot on the outside. Brad Keselowski has a left rear tire rub behind them.

Lap 248, Logano and Bowyer bang fenders for 3rd. Bowyer has a flat! He heads to the pit lane under green for fresh left sides. The right rear is flat. Bowyer returns to the track but he can’t get back to the pit lane. NASCAR throws the caution.

Pit stops

The field heads to the pit lane. Truex is first in and first off. Kyle Larson stays out.

Green, Larson gets the jump on the inside. Truex and Blaney bang fenders for 2nd.

Final lap in stage two, Tryex is all over the bumper of Larson. He enters high in turn one and crosses under Larson as they head into turn three.

Martin truex Jr is clear on the bottom and he takes the win in stage two at Martinsville Speedway!

Laps: 240 (261-500)

Green flag on stage three, Truex gets the jump on Ryan Blaney into turn one.

Lap 284, Joey Logano is beating on the rear bumper of Ryan Blaney for 2nd. Five corners in a row, he’s into the bumper. Logano finally works inside but he gets loose off the corner. The No. 22 drives deep into turn one and pushes his teammate off the bottom. Logano to 2nd.

Lap 342, Martin Truex Jr leads William Byron by 3 seconds.

Lap 346, Austin Dillon has a flat tire and the caution is out. Dillon wheel hopped into turn three. He them make contact with the door of Ricky Stenhouse Jr, just laps before losing the tire.

Pit stops

The field returns to the pit lane. Martin Truex Jr is first in and first off.

Green, Martin Truex Jr gets the jump on Ryan Blaney.

Denny Hamlin puts the bumper to Kyle Busch inside the top five. Kyle Busch tags him lightly in the left rear at the flag stand.

139 to go, Aric Almirola looks inside of Kyle Busch into turn three. They make light contact as Busch comes across his nose. They get locked together off turn four and both are turned sideways in front of the field. Jimmie Johnson comes into the scene with nowhere to go except into the left front of Almirola, heavy damage there. Ryan Preece and Matt DiBenedetto are also collected. The caution is out.

Green, Truex works clear into turn one. Blaney takes over 2nd.

124 to go, Alex Bowman gets into the left rear of Bubba Wallace. They lock wheels and Bowman is sideways in front of the field. Daniel Suarez is collected and the caution is back out.

Green, Truex runs Blaney wide off turn two. Truex leads off turn two.

90 to go, Truex leads Blaney by 3 seconds. William Byron is on the bumper of Blaney for 2nd.

53 to go, Clint Bowyer has heavy smoke on the left rear tire. It goes flat and the caution is out.

Pit stops

The field hits the pit lane. Truex is first in and first off. Blaney is off 2nd.

Green, Truex gets the jump. He’s clear by a car length into turn one as Blaney spun the tires.

Byron makes light contact with the left rear of Blaney as they bang for 2nd.

43 to go, Joey Logano is in the wall back in 4th. Hamlin ran him wide and into the wall off turn four. He’s got a flat tire and Logano is around! The caution is out.

Green, Byron hangs onto the right rear of Truex off turn two. Truex works clear into turn three.

29 to go, Michael McDowell is in the wall and the caution is out. McDowell and Hemric made contact into turn three. The caution is out.

Green, Truex gets the jump and he’s clear off turn two. Byron holds 2nd.

10 to go, Truex leads Byron by 3 car lengths.
