Needless to say, there’s a few Star Wars fan out there. Once of which is NASCAR driver Ryan Blaney. At his house, helmets sit on display across the room from a full on Darth Vader suit.
Blaney currently drives for Team Penske. He’s one of the 8 drivers fighting for the final four spots in the Championship race at Miami.
In-between the last race at Martinsville Speedway and this week’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, there’s an important holiday. Blaney threw a small gathering of a Halloween party.
As the avid Star Wars fan he is, he dressed as Princess Leia from the 1983 film ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’.
The outfit is from a scene in the movie were Jabba the Hut has kidnapped the Princess and has he held captive via chains.
Ryan Blaney comments on dressing as Princess Leia for Halloween
“Uh, I thought it was a funny costume,” Ryan Blaney says of why he chose that.
“It’s funny. Halloween, you can dress as whoever you want. And it was my house. So, I figured I could do whatever I wanted.”
“But yeah, I’m a big Star Wars fan. I couldn’t find anyone to be Jabba with me. So, that kinda stunk.”
“A lot of people didn’t know who I was. They were like, ‘What are you?’ I’m like, ‘Watch a movie man.’ “
“It was funny. That was the third year we’ve done that Halloween party at my place. It’s a pretty good turn out.”
“What prompted me? I don’t know. I saw it online and thought it was funny. I’ve got mixed reviews about it. At the end of the day, I don’t really care.”
If you were to find a Jabba would they be holding a chain that was attached to you?
“Probably,” Blaney added. “For photos.”
Maybe next year, I’ll step it up. But, I thought that was a pretty risque outfit. It was alright. It wasn’t too cold so it was ok.”
Ryan Blaney tattoos
The other thing of note is the tattoo on his leg. It features Darth Vader, also from Star Wars.
You might think that was something Blaney did to go along with his outfit. Nope, he lives with that accessory full-time.
“A lot of people thought they were fake. I wanted to tell people they were fake and they’d wash off. But, they don’t wash off. No matter how hard you scrub.”
“I’ve been a big fan of tattoos for a long time and I’ve got a handful now and kinda working on my leg there.”
“I’ve got a couple Star Wars ones on my leg. They stop at my knee right now. I’ve got a mother tattoo on my knee.”
“One I’ve had for a couple years. The other I got in January.”
