Homestead Penalty Report: November 2019 (NASCAR Championship)

NASCAR penalty report from the season finale in Homestead-Miami Speedway; NASCAR member suspended indefinitely

Over the weekend, NACSAR visited Homestead, Florida. The 1.5-mile track of Homestead-Miami Speedway hosted the season finale in the top three touring divisions of the sport.

The race and championship winning cars all cleared the post-race tear down, which was down at the track. No penalties there.

However, there were four on-track violations bringing $22,500 in fines. Additionally, one NASCAR members has been suspended indefinitely.

NASCAR Cup Series

Driver/Car: Matt DiBenedetto (No. 95)

Infraction Date: November 17, 2019 (Post-race)

Sections 10.9.10.4: Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty Level: Safety

Penalty: Crew chief ( Michael Wheeler ) has been fined $10,000.

NASCAR Xfinity Series

Driver/Car: Cole Custer (No. 00)

Infraction Date: November 16, 2019 (Post-race)

Sections 10.9.10.4: Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty Level: Safety

Penalty: Crew chief ( Mike Shiplett ) has been fined $5,000.

NASCAR Truck Series

Driver/Car: Danny Bohn (No. 30)

Infraction Date: November 15, 2019 (Post-race)

Sections 10.9.10.4: Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty Level: Safety

Penalty: Crew chief ( Steve Lane ) has been fined $5,000 and suspended from the next NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Championship Points Event.

Driver/Car: Stewart Friesen (No. 52)

Infraction Date: November 15, 2019 (Post-race)

Sections 10.9.10.4: Tires and Wheels – Note: Lug nut(s) not properly installed.

Penalty Level: Safety

Penalty: Crew chief ( Trip Bruce III ) has been fined $2,500.

NASCAR Member: Jeffrey Schmidt

Infraction Date: November 17, 2019

Infraction: Sections 12.1; 19 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing; NASCAR’s substance abuse policy)

Penalty Level: Behavioral (SAP)

Penalty: Indefinite suspension from NASCAR.
