Ferrari expresses interest in Mercedes driver; Lewis Hamilton shocked

Lewis Hamilton is surprised to hear the ‘first compliment ever’ from Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton started his racing career in karting. He was quickly picked up as a McLaren development driver, while still in karting.

In 2007, Hamilton made his first career F1 start. Naturally, it came with McLaren and he finished 2nd in series standings.

In 2008, he claimed his first title. That’s his only with McLaren.

Following the 2013 season, Hamilton jumped ship and joined the Mercedes F1 team. He’s since added 5 world titles (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019) to his resume included the last three years in a row.

Hamilton now sits at a total of 6 world titles. That’s one less than the current record holder, Michael Schumacher.

Unlike many of the greats before him, Hamilton has not driven for Scuderia Ferrari. A legendary team that typically attracts talent then proceeds to write the record books.

As Mercedes F1 team principal, Toto Wolff sat alongside, Ferrari commented on the upcoming contract expiration…

Ferrari compliments Lewis Hamlin

“Lewis is certainly an outstanding driver. Fantastic driver,” Mattia Binotto, the Scuderia Ferrari team principal stated.

“Knowing that he’s available in 2021, can only make us happy. But honestly, it’s too early for any decision,” Binotto concluded.

This weekend, Lewis Hamilton starts on the pole position for the championship finale. Scuderia Ferrari is not on the podium as Hamilton has already clinched his latest drivers’ championship.

Lewis Hamilton reacts to compliments from Ferrari

“I think that’s the first compliment I’ve had from Ferrari in these 13 years,” Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamlin stated.

Max Verstappen adds with a laugh: “It’s because you’re beating them.”

“I honestly don’t remember them ever mentioning me,” Hamlin added. “So, thank you and I’ll take it.”

“It doesn’t really mean anything. It’s all talk. But, it’s nice. It’s taken them all these years for them to recognize me, maybe.”

“But, I’m grateful,” Hamilton concluded.
