While leading the Turkey Bowl, Driver breaks front suspension; He lost the lead and took it back, all while the chassis dragged the track

Vado Speedway Park is a 3/8-mile clay oval in Vado, New Mexico. On November 28-29 the short track hosted the Inaugural Turkey Bowl.

The 305 wingless sprint car division brought a hell of a show.

Anton Hernandez was leading late in the main event. He clipped the inside tire barrier and broke the left front suspension.

Hernandez continued rolling as the chassis dragged across the dirt. Don Grable drove by to the outside to take away the lead. With the broken suspension, Hernandez wasn’t done.

On the final lap, Grable was slow into turn one with a lap car ahead. Hernandez rolled to the bottom. He was back in the lead off turn two on the final lap.

Hernandez went on to take the win and the $2,500 check to help fix the suspension damage.

“I guess I just needed to give myself a challenge,” said Anton Hernandez after the win.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for getting me here to race this weekend. I still don’t know how I held on to it, much less finished, but that was a crazy finish.”

“I have no clue how we won but we’ll take it! Huge thank you to Roger Oakes for giving me the opportunity to run this deal! On to tomorrow,” Hernandez tweeted.

The car was repaired for the following night. He went back to back, picking up his second feature of the weekend, sweeping the 305 class.

Hernandez took yet another $2,500 check. $5,000 total for his week in New Mexico.
