Derek Thorn qualified on the front row for the Snowball Derby on Friday. On Saturday, he took home the win in the Snowflake 100 as well.

Thorn started on the outside front row for the Snowflake race. On lap 65, he passed Augie Grill to take the lead. He drove off to lead the remainder of the event.

John Heil started on the pole in the outlaws division. He swept the show and took the win.

In other action, the super late model division was on track for their LCQ event. The 50 lap race saw 21 drivers going for the final four spots in Sunday’s main event.

Snowball Derby LCQ Drama

Rich Bickle is the winningest driver in Snowball Derby history. He found himself in a transfer spot toward the end of the LCQ.

However, contact with Carson Hocevar also collected Harrison Burton and it took them all out.

“It’s the same point of view you get anywhere you race anymore,” Bickle told Speed51

“You get these 14, 15, 16-year-old kids where their daddies pay for every thing and you get sick of getting wrecked.”

“I was running second, they take the top four and there are only four cars remotely fast left.  I gave him plenty of room for two laps on the outside and he just totally dumps me off of four and runs me into the 12.”

Bickle has spent many years away from the track after domination more than a decade ago. But, he’s still got some fire in him…

“There’s no emotion, it’s all truth, Bickle added.

“I’ve got eight cars sitting there.  I’m going to fucking bring them here two at a time and wreck their s— and see if they like it.  That’s the fifth race this year I’ve gotten wrecked for no reason.  I’m tired of it,” Bickle concluded.

Hocevar took blame for the crash…

“I guess it was my fault, for sure,” Hocevar said.

“We’re all racing hard.  He ran me up the hill in three and four and came across my nose.  I didn’t have enough time to slow down for him.”

“He was already sideways, I was already throttled up. That’s my fault.  You can’t stop these things on a dime, for sure.  We didn’t make it either, so I would have rather run fourth.”
