NASCAR star Ryan Newman set for Gateway Dirt Nationals

Ryan Newman will join a list of NASCAR drivers for some indoor dirt racing this weekend

At age 5, Ryan Newman got his career rolling via quarter midget racing. At age 9, Ryan Newman claimed the Kokomo Track Championship.

The stats piled up in a hurry. In 1993, Ryan Newman was added to the Quarter Midget Hall of Fame.

In 1999, the open wheel driver moved to the USAC National Series, all three of them. And he took rookie of the year, in all three.

He moved through the ranks at a rapid rate and landed in the stock car racing world. In 2000, he made his NASCAR Cup Series debut.

Newman has spent the last 20 years in the NASCAR Cup Series. 656 starts later, Newman has collected 18 wins in the highest level of racing in North America.

Currently, Ryan Newman drives the number 6 for Roush Fenway Racing. He advanced into the playoffs this year and finished 15th.

Ryan Newman returns to dirt racing

In the dead of winter, Ryan Newman is set to return to the dirt.

He has some history with returning to the open wheel scene. In 2010, Newman entered the Lucas Oil Knoxville Nationals.

In September 2019, Newman returned to the Rich Vogler Classic. Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis hosted the event and Newman finished 19th.

Now, he’s heading indoors. Ryan Newman is on the entry list for the 2019 Gateway Dirt Nationals.

The event is run indoors in Downtown St. Louis, Missouri. A 1/5-mile dirt track sits on the floor of The Dome at America’s Center.

It’s the fourth year of the indoor show. Dirt midgets were added to the program for the first time just last year. They’ve returned for another running.

The indoor dirt race will feature three classes of racing. Dirt late models, dirt modifieds and dirt midgets will take the green flag. The event is run from December 19-21st, 2019.

Newman will compete in the Dirt Midget division. Entries are filled on a invite only basis.

The dirt midget field has been split into two preliminary groups. Half will run on Thursday and the other half are set for Friday. The combined results will set the field for Saturday’s main event.

Newman will take to the track for the Thursday’s preliminary action.

Newman isn’t the only NASCAR star heading to Saint Louis this weekend. He’ll join Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe, Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr in the dirt midget division.

You should join them in St. Louis, MO.
