Rusty Wallace is looking to sell his North Carolina mountain home.

NASCAR career

Rusty Wallace was born in Arnold, Missouri. However, a move to Florida formed the foundation for short track success.

In 1980, Roger Penske selected Wallace to run a one-off event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He finished 2nd in his debut and 14th in a race at Charlotte Motor Speedway later in the season.

Wallace burst onto the full-time NASCAR scene in 1984. He claimed the Rookie of the Year award in his first season with Cliff Stewart Racing.

His first career win came at Bristol Motor Speedway with Blue Max Racing in 1986. A move to Penske Racing in 1991 setup legendary success.

In 1989, he became the Winston Cup Series Champion. He finished 2nd, twice.

Wallace ran a total of 706 NASCAR Cup Series races. He picked up 55 race wins and 349 top-10’s throughout his career.

His last win came at Martinsville Speedway in 2004. Wallace retired in 2005 with an 8th place running in the standings and never returned to the sport.

Wallace is a member of four hall of fames: NASCAR Hall of Fame (2013), the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (2013), the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (2014) as well as the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame (2010).
