Cole Pearn is managing a ski resort; Life away from NASCAR

Pearn abruptly stepped away from NASCAR ahead of the 2020 season; Now, he’s the manager of Golden Alpine Holidays

Between 2015-2019, Cole Pearn sat as the crew chief for Martin Truex Jr. Together, they collected 24 wins and a NASCAR Cup Series championship in the process.

Ahead of the 2020 season, Cole Pearn has abruptly stepped away from the sport. James Small has been selected to replace Pearn as the crew chief of the No. 19 at Joe Gibbs Racing.

So, what’s Pearn doing now?

The 37-year-old champion crew chief has retreated to his home country of Canada. Pearn and his wife Carrie are running a ski resort.

In previous years, Pearn and family have vacationed in the area of Golden, British Columbia, Canada. Now, they are running Golden Alpine Holidays.

The idea is to get off the road and spend more time with his family. Pearn has a 7-year-old son, Callum and a 5-year-old daughter, Freya.

Are you looking for a place to ski this winter?

Golden Alpine Holidays operates 4 new alpine lodges, plus a flight center. They specialize in skiing and snowboarding. In the summer, the helicopter is used to access hiking areas and lodges. The property scans 65,000 acres.

The change of pace couldn’t be more abrupt. As there’s little asphalt up there.

Cole Pearn after NASCAR retirement

“I’ve missed a lot of years already with my kids,” Pearn told the Toronto Sun.

“I’ve had a ton of great memories when we do get time together, but that day-to-day life, they’re not used to me being there, so for me I felt like the window was closing.”

“I think once they’re teenagers they probably won’t want anything to do with me. If I was going to be part of their lives, the window was now. I think that really pushed us to make the decision as early as we did.”

“It just seemed to cross a lot of the things off the list of what we were looking for. We finally came to a point this year where we found an avenue that we felt could work and we were excited about and we just decided to act on it.”

“We’re either going to do this or we’re not, and we didn’t feel good about any other options and that’s kind of how we settled on our plan.”

“My wife and I were really passionate about having our kids grow up in Canada – that’s something that we really wanted.”

“We kind of promised each other that we would do that, so the fact that we’re able to live in Canada, live in the mountains and have something that we can work at that we care about is really what it came down to.”
