The 2021 NASCAR racecar is set for Homestead-Miami Speedway
In 2021, NASCAR is rolling out an all-new racecar. When I say all new, I mean everything from the body to the chassis and even the wheels are different.
Now, the new NASCAR Cup Series machine is set to head to Homestead-Miami Speedway. The two day test will run on Wednesday, Jan. 15 and Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020.
The driver of the test has not been mentioned. However, it’s likely to be a Toyota driver.
Currently, two prototypes exist. One was built by NASCAR and has only seen the windtunnel. The other was built by Richard Childress Racing. The Next Gen car has already seen the track on two previous occasions.
Test 1: First, the car turned some laps at the 0.75-mile oval of Richmond Raceway in October 2019. Chevrolet driver Austin Dillon piloted the machine during that on-track debut.
Test 2: In December 2019, the car rolled to the track once again. This time, it was unloaded at the 1-mile oval of Phoenix Raceway. Ford driver Joey Logano was the driver selected for that session.
A Toyota driver has yet to test the upcoming chassis. They are the only NASCAR manufacture that hasn’t and are likely to be selected for the January test.
Test 3: The Homestead-Miami Speedway test will be the first time that the new car has seen a track larger than 1-mile.
