Here are the new dirt late model wraps as the 2020 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season is set to begin

On January 31st, 2020, the 2020 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season gets underway. 9 days of racing will take place over Georgia and Florida.

Golden Isles Speedway: The 4/10-mile dirt oval is located in Brunswick, GA. They’ll host the first two days of the schedule between January 31-February 1.

East Bay Raceway Park: The track is 1/3-mile and located near Tampa, Florida. Track promoters have a agreed to a future sale of the race track, five years from now. You’ll only have a few years left to catch some of the best racing all year round. The Lucas Series rolls into the track on February 3rd-8th.

All-Tech Raceway: The track is a 1/2-mile oval located in Lake City, Florida. The track recently installed some upgrades on the facility and will be hosting a Lucas race for the first time. Speedweeks concludes with the event at All-Tech Raceway on February 9th.

Tyler Erb and the Best Performance Motorsports team will take another shot at the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2020. This is the second year in a row that the driver and team combination will battle for a title.

Best Performance Motorsports is the last team to claim the series title, other than Lance Landers Motorsports. BPM claimed the title in 2017 with Josh Richards.

Earl Pearson Jr and Ronnie Stuckey partnered to form the new team for the 2018 season. They are now back for the 3rd year.

Pearson is a four-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion.

Brian Shirley ran the DIRTcar Summer Nationals in 2019 with some national late model tours sprinkled in. For 2020, he and the team have committed to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Shirley comes into the season opener on a hot-streak. He picked up multiple wins at Arizona Speedway during the week of the Wild West Shootout.

Devin Moran drove for Dunn-Benson Motorsports in 2019. For 2020, the team is operating a rent-a-ride program and will not be running either of the national tours.

Moran is back with his old team. Now, they’re going bigger than ever and ready to tackle the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for 2020.

Clint Bowyer Racing will make the switch from Andy Durham power to Cornett Racing Engines for 2020.

Josh Richards is set for his second year with Clint Bowyer Racing in the #14 machine. In 2019, Don O’Neal ran as a teammate. For 2020, Don O’Neal will move to a part-time ride with the MasterSbilt house operation.

Bruening collected nine wins in 2019. For 2020, he’s moving to the national scene.

It will be the first time for Bruening as he’s set to run for the 2020 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year award.

“This is a big deal for me and my team,” Bruening said in a team release. “We’ve been stepping out to some new tracks and events over the past few years and that has allowed us to make a lot of gains toward the success of our team.”

“It’s an honor to be able to commit to the LOLMDS full-time. My primary goals are to be competitive and consistent each night and win the Rookie of the Year title.”

#20 Jimmy Owens

Jimmy Owens is coming with a new powerplant in 2020. He’ll make the switch from Durham Racing Engines to Vic Hill Racing Engines.

Billy Moyer Jr ran with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2019. He’s returned for another run at the championship.

This time, Moyer is coming with a complete swap of his operation. He’ll unload a Capital Race Cars machine, switching from Black Diamond Chassis. The car will be powered by a Clements Racing Engine, switching from Pro Power Racing Engines.

Shane Clanton runs with teammate Tyler Bruening. They will be a two car operation on the LOLMDS tour in 2020.

Clanton finished 2nd in World of Outlaws Late Model Series standings in 2019. For 2020, he jumps to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

“I’ve been running with the Outlaws since 2005, and it was just time for a change,” said Clanton, who was the 2015 WoO Champion.

“With the way that the Lucas Oil schedule worked out this year, it made sense for us to run it. Also, several of the races are located in close proximity to Iowa, which allows our car owner Greg Bruening to get to see us race more often.”

“We’re looking forward to running some new tracks this year and getting to race in front of some new fans,” Clanton noted. “With getting into these new markets, hopefully we can attract some new major marketing partners for our team as well.”

Mason Zeigler ran for Rookie of the Year in 2018. For 2019, he ran races that were closer to home.

For 2020, he’s back. Or he’s at least committed through speedweeks.

This is a good one.

McCreadie drove the Longhorn Chassis house program in 2019. He’ll remain with the same team in 2020. But, the ownership has changed.

Donald and Gena Bradsher of Burlington, North Carolina will take over ownership of the #39 car. The car will remain the Longhorn House Car. He’s also picked up new backing from Bilstein Shocks.

Look for this to be a strong title contender in 2020.

Additionally, McCreadie makes the switch to Cornett Racing Engines after running Pro Power Racing Engines in 2019.

“It was a very successful partnership and we were able to win a lot of big races and championships together. While I still have a great relationship with them, I’m excited about this new chapter in my racing career driving for Donald and Gena (Bradsher),” McCreadie said in a team release.

“They are both great people and do things in a first-class manner. “As a driver, all you can ask for is to have the equipment, the manpower, and the resources available to compete at the highest level possible and there is no doubt that the Bradsher’s are putting together that caliber of a team.”

Kyle Bronson win final late model race of 2019, which was at East Bay Raceway Park. Since then, he ran 2nd in a modified at the Gateway Dirt Nationals in a thrilling battle.

For 2020, Kyle Bronson has already run a full week of racing at his home track. He unloaded his UMP Modified for some competition at East Bay Raceway Park, the second stop of the LOLMDS schedule.

In January, he won in the DIRTcar Pro Late Model division, with a flat left rear. He’s picked up several wins already this year and comes into the season opener with momentum.

It’s the team everyone is looking to beat.

In 2018, Jonathan Davenport landed a new ride with Lance Landers. He built a team around the driver and they set out for the national dirt late model scene.

In their first year together, they won the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series title. In 2019, they backed it up with yet another series title.

Davenport now has three Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series title on his resume. He’s been testing at Golden Isles Speedway as the team preps to make it a fourth in 2020.

Shanon Buckingham made his debut on the tour in 2019. He able to pick up his first career win at Tazewell Speedway last year.

Tazewell isn’t on the schedule for 2020. But, Buckingham is back and aiming for more victories.

Hudson O’Neal will see wholesale changes in 2020.

SSI Motorsports elected to close shop following the 2019 season. That late The New Deal without a ride heading into the 2020 season.

He’s landed on his feet. MasterSbilt Race Cars is putting a house car together and heading for the national tour. O’Neal will be the pilot.

He’ll switch chassis from Longhorn to MasterSbilt. The powerplant will also change from Clements to Jay Dickens.

Additionally, Don O’Neal has retired from full-time touring leading into 2020. He’ll be at Speedweeks, helping his son get their program rolling.


Other notes

Pearson Lee Williams, Logan Roberson and Tanner English are other notables heading to LOLMDS speedweeks. These drivers aren’t committed to the full-time tour.

They are committed through the Georgia-Florida swing. If one of them picks off a win or two, maybe they’ll continue with the tour beyond Speedweeks.

Tanner English is with a new team for 2020. He had major success last year at East Bay Raceway Park. It’s possible he could jump up and claim a win.

Scott Bloomquist Racing has jumped ship for 2020. Bloomquist and Chris Madden will both be running full-time with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

Bloomquist is currently recovering from hip surgery. He will not be running in the Lucas Oil portion of Speedweeks.
