Blue Ridge Motorsports Park closing

The dirt track first opened in 1966; Leasing opportunity available

Blue Ridge Motorsports Park is a dirt track located in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

The track is a 1/3-mile oval. It was formerly known as Sugar Creek Raceway.

The track first opened in 1966. 2008 was a hard year for the racing community, across the board. Like many tracks, the horrible year forced a closure for 2009.

In 2012, the track was resurrected. Andrew Moreland stepped in to promote the track as a first time track operator.

The track closed again years later. In 2016, it was resurrected once more, under new ownership. It’s operated for the last four years and seen a host of upgrades along the way.

Suites sit above the general grandstand seating. Luxury cabin-like spaces are available to groups to rent and view the racing action.

However, despite the upgrades to draw in new crowds, the track struggled to stay above water.

“Before we get started, we’d first like to thank you for your support through the years. Our gates wouldn’t have opened without the love and concern. We only wish that was enough to sustain the business end of a racetrack.”

“Since taking on the challenge in the fall of 2016, we have sought various means of attracting fans and drivers. Unfortunately, racing isn’t what it used to be in this tri-state area. Each of you have your own explanation as to why (which we have heard loud and clear, trust me). The bottom line is the losses have long outweighed the gains.”

“Several large shows have cost us tens of thousands which in turn hurt future races. We have been hard pressed to obtain backing from sponsors but are sincerely thankful to the ones who continued their funding for the simple love of racing.”

“2020 events are, at the moment, uncertain. To this effect, we will keep you posted as we have information to share. Please, practice patience as we work through obstacles.”

“To those who have personally reached out to the promoters, THANK YOU. You have no idea what that means to have a serious inquiry over a half-hearted insult from a keyboard-hero. It’s effortless to smear and cast judgement upon your own understanding. So thank you to the few that actually cared enough to check in.”

We have so many employees and volunteers we would like to name and call praise to; there are so many. Your time and effort have not gone unmeasured.

“As we wrap this year up, know that we did not intend to only turn out a handful of races; reference our 2019 schedule. Between the above-mentioned challenges and the weather, we just weren’t able to follow through.”

“We hope you are reading this with compassion and understanding. If not, kindly refrain from negatively commenting and keep scrolling. Should you continue to do so, be certain that your comments will be deleted with a “have a nice day” smile ????”

“As for the points this year, we will be having a get-together Saturday January 4 at the Stewart Farms venue located at 641 Chestnut Gap Rd, Blue Ridge, GA 30513. Top three drivers plus one are welcome to come by between 5-7pm for a light meal and their award.”

“Again we thank you for the support that we have received. Should you have any questions or concerns that weren’t addressed in this post, feel free to send us a message. We hope to see y’all next year. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!”

For the 2020 season, the track promoter has elected to close the facility.

In January, the track issued an update:

“After months of deliberation, we have made the hard decision to close the racetrack. We want to sincerely thank all of our sponsors, loyal drivers and loyal fans who made the last three years possible.”

“If anyone is interested opening/promoting the racetrack, you can reach Scott Stewart at 706-258-7386. Thanks to all and God bless.”
