Duel 2
Report

Laps: 60

Green flag, Johnson leads as they head into turn one but he has no help at all. Kyle Busch is locked to the bumper of Bowman and they jump to the lead. Johnson falls to 7th.

Lap 4, Kevin Harvick leads a train on the inside lane. He pulls even with Bowman who leads the outside lane. Two by two from first to last.

Lap 8, there’s hardly any side drafting at all in this one so far. Harvick leads on the inside with Matt DiBenedetto on his bumper. The outside lane is 4th on back, led by Bowman.

Lap 16, Alex Bowman is starting to play the side draft game. He pulls down on the rear fender entering the corner and exit. He’s running a diamond just for that purpose and the whole outside lane snakes with him.

Lap 17, Alex Bowman leads the outside lane with Erik Jones on his bumper. They take the lead and the bottom lane disappears.

Lap 20, single file around the top. Bowman leads Jones.

Pit cycle

Lap 23, the Chevrolet camp hits the pit lane, led by race leader Alex Bowman. William Byron wins the race off the pit lane. Fuel only for this group.

Lap 25, Timmy Hill and JJ Yeley are side by side on the track. These drivers are aggresively trading side drafts. Both of them are open cars, only the highest finishing open car will advance out of this race and into the Daytona 500.

Lap 33, the Toyota and Ford groups head for the pit lane. Harvick wins that race to the pit exit with two tires and Kyle Busch on his bumper.

With the pit cycle complete, Kevin Harvick cycles to the race lead. William Byron leads the Chevrolet group, 6 seconds back, in 7th.

Lap 42, Corey Lajoie looks to the outside of JJ Yeley down the back stretch. As they crowd each other, Yeley is looking at the outside wall. He spins with heavy damage and the caution is out.

Pit stops

Ty Dillon leads most of the field to the pit lane. Jones, Newman, Busch, Harvick and DiBenedetto stay out.

Green, Kevin Harvick leads on the inside lane. He leads by two car lengths off turn two, that’s not good.

Kyle Busch has a run on the top, Harvick pulls up to block. The run is too large. Harvick bails and dives to the bottom. With a push from DiBenedetto, Harvick holds the lead.

10 to go

10 to go, the outside lane has dissipated. 14 cars run single file around the bottom.

9 to go, Kyle Busch isn’t content. He pulls out of line. He makes it work and picks up one spot. He does it again, this time, he’s hung out to dry.

5 to go, single file around the bottom.

3 to go, William Byron pulls out from 4th. Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson go with him. DiBenedetto pulls off the bumper of Harvick to block but he’s not there fast enough.

Byron to the race lead. Johnson pulls to the bottom, as does Byron. Hendrick now leads the inside lane.

They move to the top.

Final lap, they bang fenders for 2nd on back. Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick rub. Byron is driving away.
