Stewart-Haas Racing was quick in the earlier round of practice. They also locked out the top-two rows last fall at this very track.
This year, Stewart-Haas Racing is back with a new strategy applied to their 1.5-mile program at LVMS. The results are the same so far.

Final Practice – Report
Duration: 50 minutes
5 minutes in, Team Penske is on track all at once. The teammates are dicing as they work on their race setups in traffic.
William Byron and Alex Bowman have worked their way by the Team Penske group. However, they are unable to get away. The drafting package is keeping them in groups.
Clean air is going to be important when it comes to passing.
Jimmie Johnson leads at the halfway point in the session. The 7-time champ is in his final season.
Halfway in final NASCAR practice at Las Vegas: 1. Jimmie Johnson (20.095); 2. Clint Bowyer (30.122); 3. Aric Almirola (30.139); 4. Kevin Harvick (30.165); 5. Matt DiBenedetto (30.199); 6. Ross Chastain (30.225); 7. John Hunter Nemechek (30.293); 8. Alex Bowman (30.322); 9. Joey Logano (30.349); 10. Kurt Busch (30.350);
There’s very little fall off on long runs. Even in race setup, teams can run full throttle all the way around the track. As they get into a group, a car ahead will force them to lift due to a lack of downforce.
18 minutes to go, 10 cars race under a blanket. Drivers can run side by side with ease.
10 minutes remain, Kyle Larson pulls below Ryan Blaney. As he pulls even, Blaney pinches him slightly and Larson is forced to lift as he loses downforce.
7 minutes remain, they’re three wide in practice. Nobody wants to lead the group, the guy out front isn’t learning anything. As they get to the front, they lift and let several cars go by. They do it over and over.
Ross Chastain is filling in for the injured Ryan Newman. He’s near the top 5 late in this season.
Jimmie Johnson wins practice!
