Trouble for many Toyota teams. All of them, except Daniel Suarez.

Penalized teams: Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr, Erik Jones and Christopher Bell.

All of those teams used bondo to alter the body shape. That’s illegal and NASCAR caught it in pre-practice inspection.

All of those drivers will sit out the first 15 minutes of this practice session. Additionally, Denny Hamlin will sit out 15 minutes in the beginning as well as the end of the session. Just 20 minutes of practice for the Daytona 500 winner.

Las Vegas
Practice – Report

Duration: 50 minutes

10 minutes in, Joey Logano sits at the top of the board.

Many teams are fighting a loose condition. This track gets rougher every year. As the cars bottom our through the bumps, the car bobbles across the track.

Halfway in Las Vegas NASCAR practice: 1. Joey Logano (30.330); 2. Matt DiBenedetto (30.424); 3. Aric Almirola (30.440); 4. Alex Bowman (40.470); 5. Chase Elliott (30.475); 6. Kyle Larson (30.380); 7. Clint Bowyer (30.505); 8. Ryan Blaney (30.535); 9. William Byron (30.540); 10. Kevin Harvick (30.562);

A lot of teams are working on race setups. We’re not seeing a lot of single car runs. We’re seeing teams run in traffic. Their working on their balance in turbulent air.

15 minutes remain, Kyle Larson is on track and he’s wide open. The car has to have a lot of downforce in it for him to do that. He’s trimmed for race pace.

8 minutes remain, Clint Bowyer is all taped up as he hits the track in qualifying trim. He jumps to the top of the board.

Almirola does the same, he jumps to the top of the board.

Stewart-Haas Racing wins the opening round of NASCAR practice in Las Vegas. This team has come to the track with a new strategy regrarding downforce in comparison to last year. Per statements from the drivers, they’ve also brought a lot of new setups for the first 1.5-mile track of the years after things they learned last year.
