NASCAR teams penalized ahead of Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Nine teams see issues before a single lap of practice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway; Penalties issued

Ahead of the race weekend, NASCAR rolls teams through the inspection line. Officials saw all kinds of problems across multiple divisions both yesterday and again today.

Five NASCAR Cup Series teams and four NASCAR Truck Series teams have all been handed penalties ahead of the race weekend.

All Toyota teams were hit with an infraction during pre-practice inspection. The exception is Daniel Suarez, who was the only car to pass without issues.

All Joe Gibbs Racing machines failed the same portion of inspection. NASCAR stated they used bondo to modify the body shape.

-No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing car driven by Denny Hamlin.

-No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing car driven by Kyle Busch

-No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car driven by Martin Truex Jr.

-No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing car driven by Erik Jones.

-No 95. Leavine Family Racing (Joe Gibbs Racing affiliate) car driven by Christopher Bell.

Each of these teams were penalized in the opening practice session. That sat out the first 15 minutes of the session. Hamlin was forced to sit out the first 15 minutes in addition to the last 15 min.

Four NASCAR Truck Series team were found in violation of Sections 20.9.3.2. That line is in regards to the oil reservoir tank.

The rulebook reads, “Aerodynamic panels not permitted/engine oil reservoir tank mounting brackets/supports.

All four NASCAR Truck Series teams have been penalized. They have been hit with a 10 point penalty in driver and team owner points.

-No. 13 ThorSport Racing Ford for driver Johnny Sauter

-No. 26 GMS Racing Chevrolet for driver Tyler Ankrum

-No. 88 ThorSport Racing Ford for driver Matt Crafton

-No. 98 ThorSport Racing Ford for driver Grant Enfinger
