Ryan Newman’s doctor comments after NASCAR crash

Ryan Newman continues to recover from the crash as he’s gone fishing

Ryan Newman came just a few hundred feet from winning the Daytona 500. It’s the opening race for the NASCAR Cup Series and the biggest race of the season.

A block turned Newman into the outside wall. He then flipped across the track and was struck by Corey LaJoie at 200mph.

15 minutes and 40 seconds after the car came to a rest, Newman was extracted from the car. He was placed into an ambulance and transported to a local hospital.

The Halifax Medical Center sits just two miles from Daytona International Speedway. Their facility specializes in trauma cases and that’s exactly the care Newman needed.

Just a few days after entering the hospital, Newman walked out, without shoes. He remains in recovery with future plans of getting back behind the wheel.

One of Ryan Newman’s doctors speaks on the care

“There is no better reward for us than seeing someone who was critical one day walk a few days later with their family, going back to life,”stated Newman’s doctor from the Halifax Medical Center.

“It’s a huge success for us. Everything else comes secondary. Because, otherwise we wouldn’t be in this profession.”

“This is grueling profession. I work 90-100 hours every week. So does every other doctor or surgeon. But, that’s what we do. You couldn’t do this unless you liked it.”

“He went from critical to walking out of the hospital because of the care he got. And, also a strong young man.”

“He got support from family and from us. And I think the entire nation was praying for him, including my wife and my daughter.”

“He has recovered very well and is going to go on with life. We wish him well and I want to see him on the next circuit,” the doctor concluded.
