NASCAR driver Kyle Larson has yet to race a dirt late model; It almost happened and Scott Bloomquist Racing is still ready to make it happen
NASCAR star Kyle Larson can be found circling dirt tracks, year round. However, he spends his time in the open wheels sides of the division via dirt midgets and sprint cars.
Despite all the dirt racing experience from the avid short track racer, he’s yet to run a dirt late model.
For years, Larson has expressed interest in running a dirt late model. But, it’s not quite as easy as flipping a switch.

First, the event needs to be run during the week or during an off-weekend for the NASCAR Cup Series. Larson’s NCS owner, Chip Ganassi doesn’t allow his multi-million dollar racecar driver to run dirt events close to race of practice days on the pavement.
Aside from that scheduling challenge, Larson also wants to crawl before he runs. That means a practice day in the fendered dirt late model.
And, all of that almost happened…

“I’d love to do the Indy 500 someday. But, I don’t think the time would be right, now or in the immediate future,” Kyle Larson stated of things he wants to race via the Dale jr Download.
“But, I would love to test one first. And see if I even feel comfortable in it. Because, you know, those guys are crazy.”
“Then, I’ve never raced a dirt late model or dirt modified. Those are two that I would love to run.”
“I got into stock car racing in 2012. I think that was the same year they quit doing the Prelude at Eldora. So, I was bummed about that.”
“Last year, I was going to. They had a test at Charlotte before the World Finals. I was going to run one of Bloomquist’s cars there.”
“That’s when I crashed at Talladega and broke my rib. I didn’t know it was broken at the time but I knew it hurt.”
In October 2019, Larson broke a rib after Alex Bowman slid across the track and left Larson with nowhere to go but into the side of him. The abrupt stop ended up giving the driver a broken rib.
“I was like, ‘Probably smart that I don’t get in your guys stuff and damage it any more.’ “
“When I was younger, I probably would have just raced one if I got the opportunity. But, I want to test cause I don’t want to embarrass myself out there.”
“It would be like somebody just jumping in to go race with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars. You’d probably embarrass yourself the first couple times.”
Scott Bloomquist Racing comments
“Indeed we did have this lined up and the plan is to revisit it again when schedule allows. 0$,” the team stated via twitter.
