There was a hands on conflict after the NASCAR race at Phoenix Raceway
On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series took the green flag at Phoenix Raceway. The 1-mile oval in Phoenix, Arizona drives like a short track.
On lap 136 of the 200-lap event, Dillon Bassett and Brandon Brown tangled on the track.
Brown was going for the 10th position. He got loose under Bassett and chased it up the banking.
Brown got into the left rear of Bassett as he tried to keep it from spinning. However, he pushed Bassett all the way to the outside wall in the process.
Bassett bounced off the outside wall. Brown nearly spun through the dogleg but was able to straighten it up.
The race resumed…
As the field pulled onto the pit lane after the race, Bassett still had that incident on his mind. He jumped from his cockpit.
Just as Brown came to a stop, not a second after, Bassett was already as his driver’s window. Bassett began throwing punches at Brown as he remained in his car.
Crew members came into the scene with huge smiles on their faces. They then broke up the scene as NASCAR officials stepped in to help.
Dillon Bassett has seven career starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He was fighting for his first top-10 run.
Brandon Brown has 57 NXS starts on his resume. He has two top-10’s to his credit.
Brown rebounded to finish 12th in the event. Bassett finished 18th.
Clint Bowyer on the NASCAR fight at Phoenix Raceway
NASCAR Cup Series driver Clint Bowyer was a part of the live broadcast team on Saturday. He’s been a part of this very situation in the past.
“I’ve definitely done that. But, he held onto that grudge a long time, “Clint Bowyer said as he watched the fight break out.
Bowyer added, “What was that? 100 laps ago? A little emotion at the end of the race, love it!”
