Last week, Adam Andretti, brother to John opened his 2020 Trans Am Series campaign. He did it in a tribute livery to John.

The No. 43 ECC Motorsports Dodge Challenger unloaded with the tribute wrap at Sabring International Raceway.

The car featured the same ‘Petty blue’ color that John ran with Richard Petty Motorsports in the NASCAR ranks. The car also featured a STP-style red roundel on the front.

The suit featured ECC in the STP format. And the driver’s door had “John Andretti” printed.

“My brother, John, was the ultimate competitor,” Adam Andretti said ahead of the weekend.

“To have this opportunity with ECC Motorsports is really special. The biggest thing here is that we are working to keep his memory alive is the stuff that mattered to him. Since his diagnosis in 2017 he was all about getting people screened.”

“To have a beautiful tribute race car like we do this weekend will only spark curiosity about the message. That’s what we want, the word of mouth to get around.”

“It’s not just about hitting the track with the race car, there’s a lot more to life than that, and John knew that. That’s really the biggest part on honoring his memory here at Sebring.”

“That is why he went public — it was never about him, it was trying to spread the word about, ‘You’re never too busy to go get that (colonoscopy) done.’ It’s so important to look after our own health because it’s all you have.”

“You don’t get checked for selfish reasons, but for selfless reasons — you do it for your family and those that love you. We want to make sure that message of #CheckIt4Andretti gets through strong and clear.”

After the race

Andretti opened the weekend at the top of the times sheet in the opening practice round. However, he finished 22nd in the race following issues that put him 7 laps down to the leaders.

“Just wanted to take a moment and express a sincere thank you for all the support for hashtag #checkit4Andretti and the special livery for our 2020 Trans Am season opener in Sebring,” adam Andretti said after the race.

“The race result was not what we were looking for but the message remains the same. Please schedule your colonoscopy today!!”

“ECC Motorsports delivered me an extremely competitive Dodge Challenger R/T as always. Unfortunately an engine failure with 9 laps to go while running a closing 2nd place to eventual race winner Ernie Francis Jr. put an end to what was going to be a battle for the ages I’m sure of it.”
