NASCAR teams were notified of the test today
On Friday, March 13, NASCAR was scheduled to host a triple-header race weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. The race was set to run as planned, without fans in the stands.
Just hours ahead of the first practice session, NASCAR officials elected to shut it down. Rumors suggest a call from the governors office led to the postponement.
Now, NASCAR has postponed seven races. They’re tentatively scheduled to pick up again in early May at Martinsville Speedway.
In hindsight, it would appear NASCAR made the correct decision to shut down the Atlanta event.
NASCAR alerts teams of positive coronavirus test
Today, NASCAR has notified teams that an employee has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). That employee was at the track leading up to the weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
NASCAR has asked all the teams to quarantine anyone in their organization who came in contact with the NASCAR employee at Atlanta. They suggested the quarantine last until March 27.
It’s been 12 days since the industry waited in the garage area at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Health officials have stated that some people can go 14 days before showing symptoms.
The employee is receiving medical care.
