The virus has the world on lock down. As the sporting world sits out postponement, NASCAR has turned to a digital world.
On Sunday, iRacing hosted the second eNASCAR Pro Invitational event. This week, the race was held on the digital Texas Motor Speedway.
While the race cars, tracks and trees are digital, the drama is real…
With 8 laps to go, Clint Bowyer and Greg Biffle tangled. As they spun across the track, several cars were collected to bring out a caution.
Ty Dillon was one of the cars collected. Shortly before that, Daniel Suarez had revenge on his mind.
Ty Dillon and Daniel Suarez raced down the back stretch. Suarez pulled to his inside and then abruptly turned it to the right. Suarez was attempting to clip Dillon in the left rear as the two went down the back stretch.
However, it was a swing and a miss. Instead, Suarez slammed the outside wall down the back stretch. He then bounced off the inside wall. Saurez destroyed his own car as the retaliation attempt failed.
“Oof, he was definetely going for it, trying to wreck him. I don’t think he succeeded,” Jeff Gordon laughed during the live telecast.
We still don’t know what led to the retaliation attempt. However, officials elected to park Suarez for the remainder of the race.
NASCAR EVP Steve O’Donnell made jokes about a trip to the virtual NASCAR hauler. But, the disqualification from the race was very real.
Daniel Suarez after the race
“Hey amigos, we are done with the first iRacing race. Actually, the first race I have done,” Suarez opened in the post-race video.
“It was a lot of fun. Actually, we did way better than I was expecting. We qualified in the top-10. We raced in the top-10, top-5.”
“It was good. We pitted for four tires and I thought we were going to finish in the top 5. Then, Ty Dillon wrecked me.”
“He had old tires. So, it wasn’t intentional. And then, Emma jumped on the wheel and Emma tried to wreck Ty,” Suarez jokingly blamed his dog on the retaliation attempt.
“We got disqualified. But, it was a lot of fun and we had good speed.”
