The racing games are over. The real thing will return, starting May 17th. The 1.366-mile of Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina hosts the opener.

Fans are eager to watch LIVE sports. The days of race replays from the 1980’s are now over. And the ratings are set to be through the roof as NASCAR is the first to show the green light.

Sunday-Wednesday, the track is set for two different NASCAR Cup Series races and a NASCAR Xfinity Series event.

Fans will not be allowed in attendance this weekend. This will be the case through at least June 21st. On Thursday, NASCAR released a schedule through June, all of which will be held as TV only events.

NASCAR rules for Darlington Raceway

The following items are new for this weekend:

No Practice/ Qualifying

Lineup: There will be no on-track action leading up to lap 1 of the events. All the races at Darlington will be run without practice or qualifying sessions.

The lineups will be set by a random draw for the first event back on May 17th.

Competition caution: Lap 30 of the May 17th event will see a competition caution. Teams will be allowed to make two separate pit stops. Car can remain in the pit stall as long as needed, without losing lap.

As long as they beat the pace car to the pit exit, they will restart in the same order they were at the time of the caution.

The unique pit stops is due to the lack of practice. It will allow teams to make adjustments that they typically wouldn’t have time to make during a normal pit stop.

NASCAR Guidelines

There’s a heightened level of attention on health and safety as NASCAR is set to resume.

Distancing: Social distancing will be in place for this weekend. The single day shows will allow NASCAR to spread out the teams throughout the entire infield area.

One way walkways have been put in place. Every member in the speedway will be carrying a log book. That is to note every person they come into contact with. This will allow the sanction to contract trace in the event of a positive test of the virus.

Teams have been limited to 16 members. That includes the driver, team owner, spotter and crews.

Health: Health screenings will be setup throughout the speedway. Members will be able to get medical attention in relation to the virus on site. That will take place outside of the infield medical center, to preserve the medical center in the case of on-track incidents.

Everyone in attendance will need to wear both masks and gloves. Again, fans will not be allowed entrance.
