Darlington Raceway: Pre-race inspection issues

NASCAR has issued a penalty ahead of the start

Teams have rolled into Darlington Raceway. The season is set to resume on the South Carolina oval.

There is no practice and no qualifying. The cars haven’t touched the track yet and lap 1 of the race will be the first time drivers head into turn one.

Early this morning, NASCAR opened inspection for the the NASCAR Cup Series. As cars still must pass pre-race inspection.

The green flag is set to drop in less than an hour. Brad Keselowski is set to roll off from the pole position.

Darlington Raceway Inspection Failures

Kyle Busch has failed pre-race inspection twice. The No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing machine will drop to the rear at the start of the event.

Busch was scheduled to start 4th. That position was selected via a random draw. Busch will keep his starting position but will drop to the rear.

Teams are limited to just 16 members amid a pandemic. Crew members are usually ejected with two inspection failures. The rules have changed slightly and no crew member will be ejected.

NASCAR Inspection Penalties: Pre-Qual Inspection

1 NASCAR Inspection failure: No penalty, the team gets to go to the back of the inspection line and try again.

2 NASCAR inspection failure: If a team fails twice, NASCAR will send that car to the rear of the field.

3 NASCAR inspection failures: They have to start at the rear. In addition, the car has to serve a pass through penalty on pit lane at the start of the race.
