2020 Dirt Late Model Dream postponed; New event in its place

Eldora Speedway has postponed The Dream; New event tentatively scheduled for June 2020

The Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway is arguably the biggest dirt racing event of the season, year after year. However, the 2020 event has fallen victim to COVID-19.

Eldora Speedway announced this year’s event has been postponed to June 2021. In other words, the event is canceled and they’ll pick back up next year.

11 nights of racing have now been postponed or canceled at Eldora Speedway. They’ll yet to start their 2020 season.

“With restrictions on mass gatherings issued by federal and state authorities remaining in effect, the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic continues to have Eldora’s 67th season of racing on hold and additional events scheduled for June are also in jeopardy,” Eldora Speedway stated in the release.

Yet, they didn’t use the word canceled, anywhere. This is likely to push all pre-sales of tickets and campgrounds to the 2021 event. Refunds are issued to canceled events, not postponed events.

“All advance purchase tickets, pit passes, campsites and suite admissions for the 26th Dirt Late Model Dream will be honored for the rescheduled date in early June 2021. Race fans should retain all tickets, credentials, passes and receipts they have received to date.”

“Exchanges for another event will be permitted but please be aware that renewal opportunities will be lost for anything exchanged.”

It is possible we see two Dirt Late Model Dream events in 2021, if the event is truly postponed. Though, that was not clarified in the track release.

New June 4-6, 2020 event at Eldora Speedway

Meanwhile, the half-mile dirt track in Ohio is working to schedule a new race in it’s place for June 4-6, 2020. That event would be held without spectators.

“Speedway officials continue to work with local and state agencies on determining a safe return to racing for all constituents. Crafted with guidance from local and state officials, Eldora is developing a plan for a ‘non-spectator’ event to take place on the weekend of June 4th-5th-6th.”

“The proposal, currently in review, consists of Dirt Late Model teams working in a controlled and closed setting for an invitational event streamed exclusively online.”

“While we are beginning to see more states and industries re-open, the ongoing local, state and federal efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus include restrictions on mass-gatherings and travel.”

“At this time, entertainment and sports venues like Eldora Speedway remain closed to the public and spectator events like the Dirt Late Model Dream cannot be held.”

Currently, the next event on the Eldora Speedway schedule is Ohio Sprint Speedweek. That’s set for June 13th, 2020.

As stated earlier, any spectator events in June are in jeopardy. Though, the track has a plan in place to kick off the season without fans in attendance, pending approval.
