NASCAR results as the season resumes at Darlington Raceway
Tonight, the NASCAR Cup Series makes a rare Wednesday night appearance at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. It’s the second race at the track in the last four days.

Never in the history of the sport has the NASCAR Cup Series raced at the same track for two points paying events within such a short period of time. But, in 2020, the world is upside down, backwards and twisted all at the same time. So here we go.
Darlington Raceway is a 1.366-mile oval. Sunday’s race saw a new category of viewers as 30% had not watched any NASCAR race in 2020. The world has their eyes on stock car racing.
There have been no practice or qualifying sessions ahead of this event. The field has been inverted based on Sunday night’s race results.
Ryan Preece and Ty Dillon line up on the front row. They pace the field to the starting line and 228 laps are on deck…
Darlington Race
Stage 1 – Report
Laps: 60 (1-60)
Green flag, Ty Dillon side drafts Preece into turn one. Dillon has the advantage on the inside lane and he leads off turn two.
Lap 4, John Hunter Nemechek is around and the caution is out!
Green, Ty Dillon throws a block on Preece into turn one. Dillon holds the race lead as Logano takes over 2nd. Logano makes quick work of Dillon and Logano leads.
Lap 12, John Hunter Nemechek is around once again and the caution is back out.
Green, Ty Dillon gets the jump on the inside lane. Logano and Dillon crowd each other for space into turn one. Dillon leads off turn two. Logano crosses him and retakes the top spot.
Competition caution
Lap 25, the competition caution is out.
The field heads for the pit lane. Logano is first in and Bowyer is first off.
Green, Bubba Wallace gets the jump on the outside with a huge push from Ryan Blaney. Bowyer runs the apron in turns three and four and he makes it work, Bowyer back to the lead.
Lap 33, Ryan Newman clears himself on Brad Keselowski, not clear. Newman is nearly turned into the wall. Keselowski brushes the wall and both drives continue.
5 to go in stage one, Bowyer is driving away. He leads Martin Truex Jr by 3 seconds.
Clint Bowyer wins stage 1 at Darlington Raceway!

Stage 2 – Report
Laps: 65 (61-125)
The field returns to the pit lane. Bowyer is first in and first off.
Penalty: Cole Custer has been hit with an uncontrolled tire call on the pit stop.
Green flag on stage two, Bowyer and Blaney run even into turn one and out of turn two. Bowyer wins that battle as Blaney can’t gather the momentum off the corner on the bottom lane.
Lap 70, Ryan Preece is up in smoke, no caution.
Lap 72, Chris Buescher is around off the nose of Michael McDowell. Light damage on the rear bumper of Buescher and the caution is out.
Pit stops: Off cycle
Bowyer stays out with 13 other cars. Blaney and most of the field head for the pits.
Green, Bowyer wins the race into turn one. Truex and Bowman runs side by side for 2nd, Truex takes the position on the top in turn three.
Lap 80, Matt Kenseth clears himself down the stretch on Ryan Blaney. He’s barely clear. Kenseth is hooked and he makes light contact with the outside wall.
Lap 83, the caution is out as Ricky Stenhouse Jr spins.
Pit stops
Bowyer guides the leaders to the pit lane. He wins the race to the pit exit. Truex and others stay out, Bowyer will restart 10th.
Green, Truex and Harvick run side by side for the lead. Truex holds the spot on the outside.
Lap 93, Ryan Blaney has tagged the wall. He heads to the pit lane under green as the right side fenders are smashed in.
Lap 99, Harvick is all over the bumper of Truex for the lead. As Truex peddles the throttle off turn four, Harvick is on the gas and rolling the bottom. Truex has a run into turn one, Truex lifts and gives him the spot. Harvick leads.
Lap 103, Harvick brushes the wall! He ran a little too high but he’s still rolling.
Lap 107, Cole Custer has a flat tire and the caution is out.
Pit stops
The field returns to the pit lane. Harvick is first in and Bowyer is first off.
Green, Bowyer and Truex run side by side into turn one and off turn two. Bowyer has the momentum on the outside and he wins the race into turn three. Chase Elliott follows him through and takes over 2nd.
5 to go in stage two, Bowyer leads Elliott by a half second.
Clint Bowyer has swept them so far. The #14 wins stage two!

Stage 3 – Report
Laps: 103 (126-228)
The field returns to the pit lane. Bowyer is first in and Harvick when the race to the pit exit. Chris Buescher and Ryan Newman have elected to stay out.
Green flag on stage three, Bowyer is all over Newman and Harvick is on the bumper of Buescher. Bowyer pushes Newman to the lead.
Bowyer has a look under Newman. Erik Jones has a look under both of them as their momentum stalls. Jones leads!
80 to go, Jones leads Elliott by 1 second. Jones brushes the wall but he’s still rolling.
69 to go, Chase Elliott is all over the bumper of Erik Jones. Elliott looks to the inside, Jones checks up early and crosses under him to fight back. He can’t take it back, Elliott leads.
Pit stops
54 to go, Kyle Busch heads to the pits to begin the green flag pit cycle. 53 to go, Jones, Hamlin and 10 others hit the pits all at once. 52 to go, Chase Elliott pits from the race lead.
50 to go, Matt Kenseth is around with a flat tire! The caution is out. Brad Keselowski and Brennan Poole have yet to pit, everyone else has.
Keselowski and Poole both had to the pit under the yellow. Meanwhile, the entire field takes the wave around as the rest of the field was trapped a lap down.
Green, Chase Elliott gets the jump on the outside lane with a push from Denny Hamlin. Keselowski and Hamlin battle for 2nd, Keselowski holds it.
38 to go, Keselowski looks inside of Elliott. Elliott pulls down the track to throw an aggressive side draft. Inches apart as the approach the corner. Keselowski has a narrow entry to the corner and he loses momentum. Elliott defends and keeps the lead!
34 to go, Clint Bowyer is around with a flat tire.
Pit stops
Elliott leads the field back to the pit lane. Harvick wins the race to the pit exit. Hamlin, Poole and DiBenedetto stay out.
Green, Hamlin leads into turn one as they run three wide for 2nd.
28 to go, Kyle Busch turns Chase Elliott down the front stretch! Elliott makes heavy contact with the inside wall and his day is done. The caution is out.
As Busch comes around under caution, Elliott is there waiting with his middle finger in the air.

The rain has begun to fall at Darlington Raceway. It’s falling fairly heavy too.
