Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series used a helicopter to dry the dirt track (VIDEO)

Watch as the helicopter was used to dry Golden Isles Speedway ahead of tonight’s event

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series restarted their 2020 racing season after 100 days of postponement. The tour restarted earlier this week at Golden Isles Speedway in Georgia.

Watch the helicopter dry the dirt track in the video below.

The series has been flirting with the weather all week. They were able to get in the previous two events at the track on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jimmy Owens won on the first night. Kyle Bronson survived a crash and took the victory on Wednesday night.

Thursday, the track is set to drop the green on the final of three night’s for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. However, weather rolled into the area shortly before the scheduled 7:30pm start time.

All events of the national dirt late model tour are being hosted without fans through the month of May, at least.

Each of these races are being shown LIVE, for free, to a worldwide dirt racing audience. Thus, the Lucas Oil Productions staff is on site as is the Lucas helicopter.

The rain has subsided. But, the track is still too wet for racing.

The national dirt track racing tour doesn’t have fancy track drying equipment, such as a fleet of Air Titans that you see at NASCAR events.

Series officials are limited to the equipment at each facility. None of these dirt tracks have track drying equipment.

Howeber, with a lack of fans in the facility, officials were presented with a unique opportunity to use a new set of tools to dry the track.

The Lucas Oil TV helicopter dropped from the sky. It then began gliding across the front and back stretch, inches above the race track.

It circled back and forth down the stretches of the 3/8-mile track. They used the blades of the helicopter to help dry the race track!!!

Hello! Welcomes to the world of dirt track racing. Look at the effort being put in for you to watch some dirt late model racing, for free no less. You should tune in tonight, that’s my advice.

The cars are soon to roll out to the track in bulk and pack it in. The field will race for $7,000.

After tonight, the tour will head further south to East Bay Raceway Park for three more night of racing. It’s still unclear if fans will be allowed to attend beyond the May events.
