NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace to run Black Lives Matter paint scheme at Martinsville

Bubba Wallace comments on the design of the car and the Black Lives Matter movement

Last week in Atlanta, Bubba Wallace was seen in a Black Lives Matter t-shirt. This came at the same time that a NASCAR official kneeled during the National Anthem and the President of NASCAR addressed changed during a moment of pause.

Tonight, NASCAR is scheduled to unload at Martinsville Speedway. in Virginia. The half-mile track is a great track in the stats column for Bubba Wallace. He finished 13th at the track in October 2019 which is a fantastic finish for the underfunded race team.

Despite good results at the track, Wallace enters the event without a sponsor for the week. That opened the opportunity to do something unique…

In the NASCAR Cup Series event, he’ll be entering the Martinsville Speedway grid with a Black Lives Matter paint scheme.

Bubba Wallace comments on the Black Lives Matter movement ahead of Martinsville

“It’s my best race track, for sure,” Bubba Wallace stated ahead of Martinsville.

“With this statement that we’re about to make, I think it’s going to speak volumes. What I stand for but also the initiative that NASCAR and the whole sport is trying to push.”

“We knew the Martinsville race was open. We did not have sponsorship for that. It sparked the idea of why not run a blackout car? The team brought that idea to me and I jumped all over it.”

“It’s true, black lives do matter. It’s not that we’re saying no other lives matter. We’re trying to say that Black Lives Matter, too. If we put ‘too’ on the end, I think a lot more people would understand it.”

“We want to be treated equally and no judged off our skin color. We want to be a part of this nation, as one. And come together, as one.”

“All lives will not matter, until black lives matter.”

“People will look up what this hashtag means. And hopefully get a better understanding and know that we’re not trying to create division. We’re trying to unite.”

Elements of the Black Lives Matter car

The hood features a white and black fist coming together. That feature on the NASCAR race car was hand drawn.

“The black fist and the white fist, going hand in hand, speaks volumes. It says a lot. There’s a lot of power behind it. This is probably one of the best race cars we’ve ever been able to do,” Bubba Wallace added.

There’s a peace sign on the rear quarter panels. It’s put together using hands of all color. This input came from Richard Petty himself.

In the 60’s and 70’s, Richard Petty ran cars that featured peace symbols. They were generally out of view, like on the seat, behind the headrest.

“I’m excited to see this car.”

Additionally, Bubba Wallace is donating $10,000 to the Black Live Matter foundation.
