Noose hung at Sonoma Raceway; Second NASCAR track sees racist act

A second racetrack has discovered a noose

On Sunday, someone entered the garage stall of Bubba Wallace to hang a noose by the No. 43 car. That happened in Talladega, Alabama just ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series race.

Wallace is the only African-American driver in the NASCAR Cup Series.

This act came after NASCAR banned the Confederate flag from all NASCAR tracks and properties. They also removed verbiage from the rule book that prevented kneeling during the National Anthem.

NASCAR contacted the FBI. They intend to use multiple cameras as evidence in addition to log book which show who was had access to the garage area during the suspected time period.

They stated they will use all resources to discovered who committed the act of racism. And they when they determine who did it, they will be handed a lifetime ban.

The race was run on Monday due to rain. The entire field of drivers surrounded the No. 43 car during the National Anthem.

Sonoma Raceway: Noose

On Saturday, another track discovered a noose hung from a tree on their property. This time, it was in California. This is new information.

The track released a statement:

“On Saturday, a Sonoma Raceway staff member discovered a piece of twine tied in what appeared to be a noose hanging from a tree on raceway property,” track president Steve Page announced.

“Our staff, on-site business tenants and local law enforcement have been contacted and asked to share any information they may have. The incident is under investigation by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department.”

“Sonoma Raceway takes this incident very seriously and is dedicated to operating a facility that is welcoming to everyone.”

It’s worth making it clear that Sonoma stated this was discovered on Saturday. That was before the act at Talladega Superspeedway.

Sonoma Raceway is a NASCAR road course. However, they’re 2020 event was canceled due to COVID-19.
