Pocono Race Results: June 28, 2020 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR results from Pocono Raceway

A long weekend is set to conclude at Pocono Raceway. The NASCAR Cup Series is set for their second race in two days at the 2.5-mile triangle. It’s the Pocono 350 in Long Pond, PA.

The top 20 have been inverted after Saturday’s race. Ryan Preece was scheduled to start on the pole but due to an engine change, he’ll go to the back.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 30 (1-30 / 140)

Green flag, Kurt Busch leads on the inside with a huge push from Cole Custer into turn one.

Lap 4, the caution is out due to weather. They’ve put it under a red flag.

An hour later…

Green flag, Kurt Busch and Ryan Blaney run even into turn one. Blaney side drafts heading into turn two but Busch clears him on the outside in turn two.

Lap 15, Michael McDowell has a mechanical issue heading into the corner. He loops around and slams the wall to being out the caution.

Green, Kurt Busch leads into turn one. Blaney aggressively tries to take over the top spot but he can’t get it done.

3 to go in stage one, several hit the pit lane including Hamlin, Johnson, Kenseth and others.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 55 (31-85 / 140)

Kurt Busch stays out as many pit behind him. Matt DiBenedetto wins the race to the pit exit, he’ll restart 16th.

Green, Blaney hangs onto the left rear of Busch off turn one. Blaney side drafts into turn two and Blaney takes the race lead.

Lap 39, Christopher Bell has backed it into the outside wall and the caution is out.

Kurt Busch heads for the pits. Ty Dillon takes no tires. Keselowski is off 2nd, the first with four tires.

Green, Blaney is clear before turn one. Martin Truex Jr has a look but Blaney holds him off.

Lap 45, Chris Buescher spins off turn three and the caution is out.

Green, Truex noses ahead into turn one but Blaney hangs onto his right rear. Blaney has the momentum on the outside off turn one. Blaney to the lead.

Lap 57

Lao 57, Ryan Blaney heads to the pit lane and hands the lead to Kyle Busch. Denny Hamlin is all over the bumper of Busch.

Lap 60, Kyle Busch heads to the pit lane and Hamlin is handed the race lead.

11 to go, Hamlin leads Harvick by 4 seconds.

10 to go, Kyle Busch is in the wall and the caution is out! Busch checked up for the lap car of Smithley. Blaney ran up on him quickly and made contact. Busch was sent for a spin to the inside wall and it out of the race.

Hamlin leads most of the field to the pit lane. Harvick is off first with four tires. He’ll restart in 7th.

Green, Keselowski gets the jump on Almirola but Almirola clears him on the bottom in turn one.

Ryan Preece is around. Bubba Wallace gases it and jumps over a bump on the apron to narrowly avoid Preece as he spun across the track.

Green, Keselowski noses ahead on the inside in turn one. They run four wide behind them.

Brad Keselowski takes the win in stage two at Pocono Raceway!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 55 (86-140 / 140)

Green flag on stage two, Keselowski and Newman run side by side into turn one. Keselowski wins that battle off turn one. Kurt Busch moves to 2nd into turn two.

49 to go, Harvick side drafts Kurt Busch to take over 2nd. Kurt Busch took two tires and Harvick took four on the last stop.

48 to go, Keselowski leads Harvick by 1.8 seconds.

Pit strategy

46 to go, Keselowski heads for the pit lane as he has used up all the fuel. Harvick is handed the race lead. Hamlin trails Harvick by 2 seconds.

Pit penalty: Uncontrolled tire for Jimmie Johnson. Joey Logano drove through too many boxes. Both will serve a pass through under green.

36 to go, Harvick pits from the race lead. Four tires for him.

29 to go, Hamlin has yet to pit, he last stop was on lap 77, 34 laps ago. He leads Jones by 9.2 seconds. Harvick is 32 seconds back.

21 to go, Hamlin hits the pit lane. It’s a two tire call. He re-enters the track in 2nd, 1 seconds ahead of Harvick.

16 to go, Martin Truex Jr pits from the lead. Hamlin is handed the lead. Harvick trails by 2.2 seconds.

7 to go, Hamlin leads Harvick by 2.2 seconds.
