NASCAR team to run ‘Stand For The Flag’ paint scheme at Indianapolis

This weekend, two race cars will feature ‘We Stand for the National Anthem’ paint schemes at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

NASCAR is heading to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It marks the first trip to Indiana during Independence Day weekend (Previously held at Daytona).

Mike Harmon Racing is feeling patriotic. Both of their NASCAR Xfinity Series entries will feature ‘Stand for the Flag’ on the machines.

This comes just weeks after NASCAR removed lines from their rule book which required members to stand during the National Anthem. It’s opened the doors for protests during the Anthem.

Previously, any NASCAR member who kneeled, would have been penalized.

Additionally, NASCAR President recently stopped cars on track ahead of the green flag at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He promoted a need for change within the sport stating, “We need to do better.”

History of Patriotic Paint Schemes for Mike Harmon Racing

This is not the first time Mike Harmon Racing has run paint schemes in this context.

At Daytona International Speedway, the No. 47 featured a re-elect Donald Trump scheme. This came on the same weekend that the President paced the field ahead of the Daytona 500.

More recently, the No. 47 has featured a #BackTheBlue paint scheme. The hood of that ride featured the ‘Blue Lives Matter’ logo. That car was run at Talladega Superspeedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and again at Pocono Raceway.

Bubba Wallace encouraged NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag in a CNN interview. He then entered the race at Martinsville Speedway in a ‘Black Lives Matter’ paint scheme.

Mike Harmon Racing’s ‘Blue Lives Matter’ car made it’s debut in Florida just three days after Wallace fielded the ‘Black Lives Matter’ machine.

NASCAR recently banned the Confederate flag from all events and properties. This has been a change that has divided much of the fan base. A poll on our own social channels determined 50.5% of our audience was in favor of the ban while 49.5% were in agreement.

Following the announcement of the ban, a plane flew over Talladega Superspeedway with a Confederate flag and the “Defund NASCAR” slogan.

Additionally, also shortly after the ban of the flag, Sonoma Raceway found a noose hanging from a tree on the property of their California race track. A day later, NASCAR mistook a garage pull for a noose in the stall of Bubba Wallace at Talladega.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will run the Pennzoil 150 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday July 4.
