Tonight, it’s the first of two nights on the half-mile dirt oval in Union, Kentucky. Florence Speedway hosts the national dirt late model tour in the Summer Sizzler.

This weekend, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series was originally scheduled to be in Minnesota. Instead, the series has landed at the famed Kentucky dirt track for two back-to-back nights of racing.

Feature – Report
Jonathan Davenport and Earl Pearson Jr set the front row for the main event. They’ll lead the field to the line in a battle for $12,000 to win.
The field lines up in a four wide salute for the Kentucky racing fans. 50 laps of dirt late model racing are up next…
Green flag, Pearson gets the jump. Davenport fights back and drives it deep to the inside in turn one. Davenport clears him and leads off turn two.
Owens works by Pearson off turn four. Bronson follows him through.
Lap 10, Davenport leads by 1.5 seconds.
The cushion is heavy tonight. Many drivers are knocking it and bicycling into turn one.
Lap 12, Hudson O’Neal jumps the cushion and brushes the wall in turn one. He keeps rolling, no caution.
Lap 16, Owens has a run on Davenport for the lead off turn four. They race into turn one and Owens clears him on the bottom.
Lap 20, Davenport is all over Owens for the lead. Josh Rice slides Bronson for 3rd.
Lap 25
Lap 25, Owens works heavy lap traffic. He’s held up by O’Neal and Davenport has a run off turn two. Davenport slides him in turn three.
Back into turn one, Owens crosses under him. He slides Davenport, inches from the front nose and clear. Owens holds the lead off turn two.
Lap 27, Davenport is around in turn one after contact with Josh Rice and the caution is out! Heavy nose damage and Davenport is off on the hook.
Green, Owens and Rice run even into turn one. Rice noses ahead on the bottom.
Owens jumps the cushion into turn one! He makes a heavy impact with the wall.
He had no contact with another driver, the car just never rotated. He went straight over the cushion and car came to a quick stop after impact with the wall. The caution is out.
The driver is alright. But, now Owens is off on the hook. Josh Rice takes over the lead.
Green, Rice leads into turn one. Zack Dohm and Pearson run side by side for 2nd.
Lap 30, Rice us riding the cushion like a rail and driving away from the field. He knocks it hard in turn four, the car jumps sideways but he’s still on the gas.
10 to go
Lap 40, Pearson Jr is closing in slighly on Rice. Pearson has moved to the bottom while Rice remains glued to the outside wall.
2 to go, Pearson is there! Pearson to the inside in turn one. He slides him for the lead and clear!
1 to go, Pearson leads at the line but Rice is there. He holds the lead off turn two and into turn three.
Pearson runs wide off turn four! Rice crosses under him off turn four and they race side by side to the line.
Earl Pearson Jr wins by inches at Florence Speedway!
Race officials are double checking the transponder mounting positions. The difference was .002 seconds at the line.
They call it, Earl Pearson Jr officially wins the closest Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series finish in series history!
