2020 NASCAR All-Star Race: Paint Schemes (Bristol)

The cars will have a new look when they unload tonight at Bristol Motor Speedway

Tonight, the NASCAR All-Star Race is set to take the green at Bristol Motor Speedway. It’s the first time the event will take place on any short track.

Drivers are battling for $1,000,000. 16 of the drivers are already locked into the main event.

The rest of the field will run The Open, a qualifying race that offers spots in the ALL-Star event. The Open race has three stages, the winner of each stage will transfer into the All-Star Race. Additionally, the fan vote will transfer in one additional driver.

There’s a wide range of changes ahead of tonight’s short track race. Both to the format and appearance.

Cars will feature underglow lights on the drivers in a transfer position. This is the first time we’ve seen any underglow lights in NASCAR.

A choose rule will set the lineup on restarts. After drivers exit the pit lane, they’ll choose if they want the inside or outside lane. If the first five drivers line up on the inside, the 6th place car could restart on the outside front row.

The numbers have moved. NASCAR removed the contingency sponsor program. This has allowed more space on the door for sponsorship placement.

New for the All-Star race, NASCAR also moved to the door number placement backward. Now, with contingency stickers removed and the number pushed back, the door is now the largest sponsorship area.

The cars will look different tonight. How much different? Here’s photos of the Bristol paint schemes below…

Kevin Harvick: “It’s going to look much different than the All-Star Races we’ve had over the past several years. I think all of us, from the drivers’ perspective and the fans’ perspective, have been itching for our All-Star Race.”

“I think it’s going to be very similar to old Bristol because they are going to spray the traction compound on the bottom of the racetrack and there are very short races that are going to happen (starting with the All-Star Open). What I think is going to happen is the majority of the race is going to be run on the bottom of the racetrack, which means, in order to pass somebody, you’re probably going to have to use the front bumper, which could get pretty exciting.”

“I’m looking forward to it and I’m really excited about the change for the All-Star Race.”

Ryan Newman: “The All-Star Race is always fun and unique in that you can take some chances you may not otherwise take, both in car setup and on the track execution. Moving to Bristol will no doubt intensify the drama and I’m excited to try out the format at a short track.”

Newman added, “Way back in my career I was able to win the qualifying race to get in, and wound up winning that, so I know what that feeling is like and hope to have it again come Wednesday in our Oscar Mayer Ford.”

Aric Almirola: “Bristol is one of those places where the track changes throughout the run, especially in the last couple of years, when they put the (traction) compound down on the bottom groove. That has tended to get rubbered up and get really slick as the run moves on and the cars migrate to the top of the racetrack.”

“The top of the racetrack is not very good when it’s clean but, when it starts to rubber up, it actually gains momentum and gets faster, so the groove moves around a lot from run to run and throughout the run, and that makes it fun and it makes it exciting. As a driver, it gives you the option to search around and look for speed.”

Kyle Busch: “Bristol is one of my favorite tracks, so I’m really happy that the All-Star Race will be there this week. It’s been a good place for us over the years.”

“We had a good run there in the first race, and I think we can take some notes from that first race and apply them for this week. It’s probably the best we’ve been at a track since we’ve come back racing. Hoping we can have a good run with our M&M’S Camry.

“They are trying out a few things like the choose cone and the lights underneath. It’s a good opportunity to try some new things, but we’ll still want to bring home that million (dollars, first price) and try to win that thing if we can.”

Corey LaJoie: “We’ll be ready to race our way in Wednesday night. I know [Crew Chief] Ryan Sparks and our team are revved up and ready to contend for a spot in the All-Star race with our Trump 2020 Ford.”

“It’s a cool opportunity for us to put ourselves into the spotlight and race for some big money. It’ll be great to have a lot of fans back at the track with us as we race under the lights at one of my favorite tracks on our schedule.”

Cole Custer: “I was a little nervous originally thinking I was going to have to race in the Open. Bristol isn’t easy and there are a lot of good guys in the Open this year.”

“To already be locked into the All-Star Race takes a lot of stress off. It’ll be fun to race for one million dollars. We were pretty solid at Bristol (in May) but ended up getting wrecked.”
