Speedway facing possible fine after violating state orders

The track has been ordered to shut down; Continues to host events with another scheduled this weekend

Alien Motor Speedway has violated state orders for a third time. They could now be handed a fine of $5,000.

Alien Motor Speedway is a 3/8-mile dirt track located in Roswell, NM.

“Today, if you asked me if I think in the middle of July we could have a large concert, my reaction with what I know about COVID around the country and for the state of New Mexico is no. I don’t think we can,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham stated earlier in July.

The track has received multiple warnings from state officials but they continue to host events and it was being investigated by New Mexico Police. State officials have reported the violation with Department of Health this week, who will have the final say of whether or not the speedway deserves the fine.

The state of New Mexico has only had 15,514 cases of COVID-19. 223 were added on Tuesday. 6,429 have recovered while 551 have passed.

Ahead of the 2020 racing season, the New Mexico dirt track underwent a massive construction project. Grandstands, the scoring tower, the flagstand, buildings and the track surface were all upgraded.

Ahead of last weekend, the track posted a statement to social media that was later deleted.

“We have a couple haters in our community, previous racers and stuff, that are trying to shut all the race tracks down here in New Mexico that you guys know. I’m not scared. I am racing tomorrow,” the track stated.

On Wednesday, speedway owners instigated state officials with the following.

“Attention in the pits, while the governor has lost her mind, we kinda have to, so we at the Alien Motor Speedway want to make this weekend even better,” the speedway stated via social media.

“So, this Saturday in Roswell NM if we get 20+ modifieds, it will pay $1000 to win $175 to start. Bring them cars load them up for another out of this world racing experience. See you Saturday night under the lights at the All New Alien Motor Speedway.”

They’ll pack the grandstands again this weekend.
