Huset’s Speedway sold: State of the art dirt track set to re-open in August 2020

Fans are excited as the legendary dirt track finally sells following years of being listed; Jackson Motorplex moves races to Huset’s

Tod Quiring is the owner of the Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota. Now, he’s doubled down to become the owner of a second race track.

Quiring has purchased Huset’s Speedway. It’s a 0.375-mile dirt oval located in Brandon, South Dakota.

Back in 2005, Huset’s Speedway was purchased by Chuck Brennan. The name of the track was changed to Badlands Motor Speedway.

Over the years, the former owner claimed that he pumped $18 million into the facility. The dirt track is state of the art. It’s wired completely for TV usage. New grandstands and state of the art suites sit above the grounds.

It was already a legendary dirt track. Now, it’s also a masterpiece.

Why was Huset’s closed?

But, why was such an awesome facility closed to begin with? That’s complicated…

Brennan is the owner of the Dollar Loan Center. In November 2016, a bill was passed that limits short term loans to 36% APR.

The Dollar Loan Center continued to operate, thinking they were in compliance with the new law. However, the South Dakota Division of Banking thought otherwise and revoked their lending licences.

That forced Dollar Loan Center out of South Dakota. The company continues to operate outside of South Dakota but the owner was forced to shift strategies and bail on the state.

Huset’s Speedway was a victim of something it had nothing to do with. The gates officially closed on May 18, 2017 and the track has been listed for sale.

Several deals came close to being complete but nothing stuck. Instead, the most updated dirt track, sat with no cars on the track.

This sale marks the end of a near drastic event for the track. The former owner, Brennan previously stated that he would be forced to tear down the legendary track if it wasn’t sold by the end of 2018.

A deal fell through. Brennan then had the idea of giving the track away to a race winner on August 13, 2019. Sprint car entry fees were set at $200,000. A few teams sent in an entry but The Race never happened due to a lack of entries.

Now, the track has officially been sold. It’s in good hands and they’re going racing.

Tod Quiring on purchasing Huset’s Speedway

“A couple of years ago, Chuck Brennan and I started talking. He gave me a nice tour. But, it didn’t work out back then,” Tod Quiring told Keoland.

“In late March, we reconnected and we put a deal together. It was good.”

“As a fan, I used to come over here on Sunday nights. They’d start the races by 8pm and be done by 10:30. Really looking forward to getting back to that.”

The new owners have already moved the All-Star Circuit of Champions race from Jackson Motorplex to Huset’s Speedway. That’s set to be the season opener for the reborn facility.

“I buy a lot of real estate. I’m looking at it as a fan but it’s a real estate venture. It’s a business for us, it’s pretty exciting though.”

The Jackson Motorplex sits just over an hour from Huset’s Speedway.

“Due to the state restrictions, limitations on crowds and lack of recent updates for outdoor venues in Minnesota, the Jackson Motorplex has decided to suspend all remaining events in 2020 effective immediately,” the track stated in a release this week.

Several of our upcoming special events are being moved to Huset’s Speedway in South Dakota:

“The Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions race has moved to Sunday, Aug. 2, at Huset’s Speedway along with the Monster Truck Throwdown now scheduled for August 29 at Huset’s Speedway.”

“The Power Series Nationals with the Midwest Power Series and MSTS sprint cars scheduled for Labor Day Weekend in Jackson is also being moved to Huset’s Speedway on Sept. 18-19 along with RaceSaver Sprint Cars.”

“We are currently working on next year’s schedule with all sanctioning bodies to make 2021 great!”
