Quin Houff to get a talking to from NASCAR after pit lane accident (Video)

Quin Houff sideswiped Christopher Bell and Matt DiBenedetto at Texas Motor Speedway; Brad Keselowski says some drivers should be removed

Quin Houff struggled to get to the pit entry during a green flag stop at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Houff was in the middle lane in turn four. In the process, he cut across the track, clipping Christopher Bell and Matt DiBenedetto in the process.

Ryan Blaney was dominating the race to that point. However, due to the untimely yellow, Blaney was trapped a lap down.

It was a costly mistake, for many.

“I would like to see drivers be able to graduate into this level and equally I’d like to see them be able to be removed from this level when they have repeated issues. I think they should effectively be placed in a lower series or be asked to go to a more minor league level to their salt,” Brad Keslowski stated after the race.

NASCAR comments on Quin Houff

Scott Miller is the SVP of Competition for the NASCAR Cup Series. The move has the attention of NASCAR officials.

“I think nobody could argue that it was a very poor decision,” Miller said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“Yes, we do review every incident of every race. We didn’t speak to the driver [Sunday] night, but we will before we get going again at Kansas.”

“Got to do better than that. Racing incident, things are going to happen. Every decision that is made out on the racetrack is an instantaneous, spur-of-the-moment decision.”

Miller concluded, “But, I think that nobody could argue that wasn’t a poor one.”

Quin Houff comments

After the race, Quin Houff was placed on defense.

“I was trying to get to pit road and I didn’t get called off in time. The guys underneath me were already committed and that’s my fault,” Houff stated in a social media video.

“I had a spotter mirror there that we use in the window. It had fallen off, so I couldn’t see out of that. Rookie mistake, it’s one of those really tough learning instances.”

“It’s unfortunate because it was a new car for us. We were having a good day. I hate that for my team.”

Soon after, Houff came under attack from the keyboard warriors. He waved the white flag.

On twitter, he stated posted a statement, “Will be logging of social for awhile. I’ll just leave this here and let the oh so lovely Twitter world take over. #RomeWasntBuiltInADay.”

The statement above included a photo that showed the left side mirror bent in the wrong direction. Basically, the side mirror didn’t work for him at all and he only had the rear mirror to work with.

It’s worth noting this is the Cup Series and spotters serve as a tool for all drivers. However, a spotter doesn’t drive the car.
