Kyle Larson: Wild flip at Huset’s Speedway (Video)

Huset’s Speedway returned for the first time in three years; Larson was going for 8 wins in a row and instead he violently flipped into the fence

On Sunday night, Huset’s Speedway reopened the gates. Dirt racing fans from across the country packed into the grandstands for a thrilling night of sprint car action.

Watch the Kyle Larson flip video below.

It’s the first time a green flag dropped on a sprint car event at the speedway since 2017. It survived the bulldozers, racers and fans were eager to show support.

Huset’s Speedway (formerly Badlands Motor Speedway) is a 1/4-mile high-banked dirt track. It rests in the hills of Brandon, South Dakota.

It’s a legendary track. Last month, a deal was finalized for Tod Quiring to purchase the track. Events at his other facility, Jackson Motorplex are unable to host fans.

Thus, events were moved from Jackson to Huset’s. The racetrack was reopened with a $20,000 to win show for the All-Star Circuit of Champions.

Kyle Larson on a roll

Kyle Larson has rediscovered his footing on the dirt tracks across America. He’s winning, everything.

The 27-year-old came into the event with seven straight ASCoC feature wins. That’s the most all time for the series. At Huset’s, he was looking to break his own record.

Things started off on the right foot. Larson clocked 3rd quickest in hot laps and then followed that with overall quick time in qualifying. He was 3 whole tenths quicker than the field in qualifying and the only car in the 10 second bracket with a 10.843.

However, things went South in the heat race. Larson started 4th. He tagged the wall on his own off turn four on the first lap. He went to the pit area, the crew went to work on the right rear and Larson rejoined the field at the tail.

On lap 3, Larson knocked the cushion in turn one on a restart and it sent him right and directly into the wall. The No. 57 flipped end over end before slamming into a pole on the catch fence.

Larson climbed from the mangled machine under his own power but the car was totaled. He was forced to forfeit from the rest of the night’s program.
