NASCAR driver Spencer Davis tests positive for COVID-19

Spencer Davis becomes third driver to test positive during Coronavirus pandemic

Spencer Davis was on the entry list for this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. The driver has since withdrawn his entry for Friday’s truck race in Brooklyn, MI.

Davis is now the third driver to test positive for the virus. Jimmie Johnson and Brendan Gaughan are the two other drivers.

Johnson only missed one race. Quickly after the positive result, Johnson posted two negative tests.

Gaughan runs a part time schedule. He’s still expect to complete on the Daytona Road Course on August 16th.

Davis may return to active if he nets two negative tests for COVID-19, at least 24 hours apart.

Spencer Davis comments on Coronavirus test

The driver posted the following note on Thursday:

“With 2020 starting off as a lot of first for myself on many levels, starting a truck team, and venturing out with the start of a new business, it seemed to be going well,” Davis opened in a social media statement.

“But with the start of the pandemic, it has changed how we have to stay alert to keep everyone safe and healthy. With that being said, we have been taking all the proper steps during traveling for races and at events.”

Davis concluded, “This week, I had to go take tests and one positive test result is keeping us from racing Michigan. I support the protocols in place by the CDC and NASCAR and plan on taking the correct steps to come back to the track.”

The 21-year-old has run 18 NASCAR Truck Series races in the last 3 years. He’s collected three top-10’s in the series. Davis has two K&N Pro Series East wins to his credit, one of which he claimed during the 2019 racing season.
