Marshalltown Speedway sees heavy storm damage with 106 mph winds in Iowa

The 2020 season has been put on hold at the dirt track after Hurricane-force winds in the middle of the United States

Multiple tracks across the country saw storm damage on Monday afternoon and into the night. The bulk of which were in the Midwest region.

Marshalltown Speedway is a 1/4-mile dirt track located in Marshalltown, IA.

“We’ll, another sad day for Marshalltown,” the track opened in a social media video.

The front gate to Marshalltown is currently completely blocked as a tree fell over the road. But, that’s just the beginning.

106 mph winds rolled into the area. It was straight line winds, without circular motion. In many areas, the hurricane-force winds were sustained for up to 45 minutes.

The damage, is everywhere.

There’s no light poles behind the grandstands as they were ripped right out of the ground. The 90 foot poles then fell on fencing and caused more damage.

Billboards were knocked out of the race track and transported by air, across the street. The catwalk in the pit area was twisted and knocked down.

But, the speedway wasn’t the only one to suffer damage. A few Monster Truck operations were parked at the facility. At least one of them was flipped.

Right next to the race track, a FedEx truck was tossed over. It laid on it’s side along the edge of the highway.

“There is extensive storm damage at the Speedway. We will post when/if we will be able to continue our 2020 season,” the speedway stated, announcing their schedule has been put on hold.
