Eldora Speedway replaces 2020 World 100 with new dirt race

Intercontinental Classic scheduled in place of famed dirt late model event

The 50th annual World 100 has been postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 health crisis. The event was originally scheduled for September 10-12, 2020.

In a track release, “Despite Governor Mike DeWine and the State of Ohio’s tremendous resolve to stop the spread of the coronavirus, the Ohio Department of Health’s orders which restrict mass gatherings and prohibit spectators from grandstand events at large venues remain in effect.”

However, competitor based auto racing is allowed in the state of Ohio, it’s just not approved in conjunction with a large gathering.

So, they’re going racing….

Intercontinental Classic

When? A replacement event have been scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the weekend of September 10-12th, 2020.

Purse? The new event will be titled the ‘Intercontinental Classic’. The dirt late model race at Eldora Speedway will be shown via FloSports with a $200,000 event purse.

Format? Thursday and Friday will see full programs paying $10,000 to the feature winner. The points totals, including passing points will set the heat races for Saturday.

The Saturday finale will feature heat races, B-Features and a 67-lap $50,000 to win main event.

Earlier in the year, Eldora Speedway hosted the Dirt Late Model Stream. The event was invitation only. This new event will also be invite only.

Who? National, regional, and local stars from across the country. Fans can expect to see drivers from the ranks of DIRTcar; the Summernationals; the Southern Nationals Tour; the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series; the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series; and Eldora’s local and regional favorites.

The roster will be released via FloRacing on Monday, August 17th at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT.

Eldora Safety Guidelines

The track release included a list of rules for the event regarding safety and health:

“As a non-spectator event, access to the Intercontinental Classic will be restricted to working track and series officials, pre-approved racers and their working pit crews, ambulance and EMS responders, the track fire and safety team, and members of the broadcast production team.”

“All participants will be required to follow a defined safety protocol, including but not limited to pre-entry medical screening, wear mandatory cloth face coverings, and maintain social distancing of six feet.”

“The event is being planned in accordance with the latest CDC, OHSA, federal, state and local guidance. State of Ohio law and Ohio Department of Health orders are enforced by local and state authorities.”
