Bubba Wallace was spun by Joey Logano and Alex Bowman on final lap at Daytona (Video)

The final lap disaster for Bubba Wallace

On Sunday, NASCAR visited the Daytona Road Course. It was the first time in the modern-era that the NASCAR Cup Series visited the road course in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Bubba Wallace entered the race with high hopes. The Richard Petty Motorsports signed Doordash as a new sponsor ahead of the event and they were set to make their debut in the sport.

With 2 laps to go, Bubba Wallace was in the 8th position. It was set to be his fifth top-10 run of the season and if he finished there it was set to be his second-best finish of the year.

With 1 to go, Bubba Wallace was now 9th. But, it all went wrong into turn one. He didn’t get the result he was hoping for as a result.

The post-race broadcast coverage was cut short. Fans were not shown the clip of the incident.

Joey Logano drove it deep to the inside of Alex Bowman in turn one of the final lap. Logano clipped Bowman and Bowman was then pushed into Bubba Wallace.

Wallace was sent for a spin.

Alex Bowman comments after the race

“Bummer to lose those four spots there on that last lap,” Bowman stated in a social media video after the race.

“I hate that we got into the 43 car. I was kind of sandwiched between the 22 and 43. I hate to get into Bubba.”

Bowman added, “It wasn’t good for either one of us. But, could have been way worse. Road course are fun.”

Logano and Wallace comment after the race

Logano was coming on new tires. He pitted during the last caution of the race.

“We were 7th and we weren’t going to win from there. But, we gave it a shot and got back to 9th,” Logano said in a post-race video.

“We got nothing to lose. Figured we’d go for it. What the heck? Why not. Thought a lot more cars would pit. Surprised how many cars behind me stayed out.”

Logano concluded, “When I saw the leader stay out. I was like, ‘Oh heck ya! I’m pitting, this is going to be great.’ I can’t believe more didn’t pit.”

Bubba Wallace saw this video. He commented, “He damn sure tried to win it from 10th into 1 on the last lap.”
