Kyle Larson quickest so far in late model debut at Port Royal Speedway (Video)

Larson is making his late model debut tonight; It’s looking amazing so far

Larson has landed in Port Royal, PA

This week, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series have landed in Port Royal, Pennsylvania. Tonight, it’s the first of a three day show at the famed dirt track.

The Rumble by the River is highlighted with a $15,000 to win main event on Saturday night. On a Thursday night, the grandstands and infield are both packed.

Why?

Kyle Larson is making his late model debut. After years of expressing interest int he fendered side of dirt track racing, he’s getting his shot.

Larson is piloting the black No. 6. The car is owned by K&L Rumley Racing.

“Now, in 2020, the K&L Rumley team is finally hitting the track for the first time this season. Not only that, but are making history by being a part of Kyle Larson’s late model debut. To say the team is excited and honored about this opportunity is an understatement. Let’s race,” Jacqueline Brush Rumley stated via twitter ahead of the event.

Larson quickest so far

Larson has gone on a dirt track racing tear since April. He’s won just about everything. He has a worst finish of 6th, in over 30 races.

He’s the hottest thing in dirt track racing. It doesn’t matter what car either.

As to be expected, Larson tops the times sheets. Hot laps are in the books. In his first late model appearance, Larson is quickest overall.

Larson rolled to the track for hot laps. In group five, he turned a 18.554. That’s the quickest time, by a whole lot.

Jonathan Davenport was 2nd quickest. In group four, he turned a 18.775.

So far, Larson is two tenths faster than the entire field of national dirt late model stars.

Just as the field was taking to the track to begin group A qualifying, the weather rolled into the area. The event is currently in a rain delay and expected to resume shortly.
