Governors Reign race results; $52,000 to win at the Ohio dirt track

Tonight, it’s the final night of the two-day dirt sprint car show in Rossburg, Ohio. Eldora Speedway is set to host the Governors Reign.

Eldora Speedway is a famed half-mile dirt track. This is only the 3rd event at the track this season. Tonight, it’s the only sprint car event scheduled at the track in 2020.

Governors Reign
Race Report

Green flag, spin in the back. the field stacks up at the launch. Brad Sweet and Donny Schatz are caught in it. Jacob Allen, James McFadden and Brock Zearfoss were as well. It will be a complete restart.

Green, Gravel gets the jump on the inside in turn one. Brian Brown throws a slider for 3rd but Carson Macedo crosses under him to retake the spot.

Lap 6, Gravel has caught the tail of the field. Brent Marks takes over the 2nd spot.

Lap 10, most of the leaders are glued to the narrow cushion on the high side of the track.

Lap 14, Marks is closing quickly on Gravel for the race lead.

Lap 15, Gravel gets held up by lap traffic. Marks closes to within 3 car lengths.

Lap 17, Marks knocks the cushion and bicycles into turn one.

Halfway

Lap 18, Larson slides Macedo for 3rd.

Lap 19, the caution is out as Cory Eliason spins.

Donny Schatz heads to the pit lane. He bent the front wing on the start of the race. Shane Stewart pulls to the pits and calls it a night.

Green, Gravel leads. Larson slides Marks for 2nd in turn one.

Lap 26, Gravel works lap traffic. Larson closses to within a car length.

Lap 27, Larson knocks the cushion in turn one and loses three car lengths.

Lap 30, Gravel is on the cushion in both corners. Larson enters low in turn one and slides up to catch the cushion in turn two. The cushion is rough in the entry to turn one.

Lap 33, Larson changes his line. He’s now glued to the cushion.

White flag for Gravel. He leads by 5 car lengths out of turn two.

Larson drives it deep to the bottom in turn three. He gets to the inside of Gravel and pins him behind a lap car!

They drag race to the finish. David Gravel wins by a 10th of a second!
