NASCAR race results from Las Vegas Motor Speedway; Round 2 opener for the Playoffs

Tonight, the NASCAR Cup Series unloads in Las Vegas, Nevada. Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts the opening race in the Round of 12 step of the NASCAR Playoffs.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 80 (1-80 / 267)

Green flag, Chase Elliott is all over the bumper of Harvick into turn one. Harvick is pushed off the bottom in turn two as Elliott drives by on his inside, Elliott leads.

Lap 25, the competition caution is out.

The field hits the pit lane. Slow stop for Elliott, Kyle Busch wins the race to the pit exit.

Green, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin run side by side into turn one. Logano locks onto the rear bumper of Hamlin off turn two and he pushes him right to the lead in turn three.

Lap 60, Hamlin leads Logano by 1 second.

Denny Hamlin cruises to the win in stage one at Las Vegas!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 80 (81-160 / 267)

Hamlin leads them to the pit lane but he’s off 3rd. Kyle Busch wins the race to the pit exit.

Green flag on stage two, Kyle Busch noses ahead into turn one on the outside. Logano has a push from Dillon off turn two, Logano to the lead in turn three. Kyle Busch crosses under Logano off turn four, Logano throws a huge block but Kyle Busch pokes through as he rolls the apron.

Lap 88, Logano and Kyle Busch run side by side off turn two. Hamlin has a run on both of them down the backstretch. Hamlin cuts to the inside, three wide for the lead. Logano and Kyle Busch make contact as the run from Hamlin was a surprise to both of them! Hamlin leads as Logano billows smoke and Kyle Busch has right rear damage.

Lap 90, Logano pits under green with a tire rub. They crew will pull on the fenders and change right sides.

Lap 92

Lap 92, Chase Elliott has a run on Denny Hamlin into turn three. Elliott drives it deep to the inside and clears him in tour four to take the lead.

Lap 120, green flag pit stops are underway. Kyle Busch suffers from a broken air gun, slow stop for him.

Lap 146, Chase Elliott cycles back to the race leader. Hamlin trails by 1 second.

5 to go in stage two, Hamlin has closed to within three car lengths of Elliott for the stage win.

3 to go, Hamlin is on the bumper of Elliott. Elliott rolls the bottom as Hamlin rolls the top. The next corner, they swap lanes. Elliott opens the gap.

Chase Elliott wins stage two at LVMS!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 107 (161-267 / 267)

The field heads to the pit lane. Hamlin wins the race to the pit exit, Elliott is off in 3rd.

Green flag on stage three, Hamlin noses ahead with a huge push from Elliott on the outside lane. Hamlin cuts to the bottom in turn one to take the air off the nose of Bowman on the inside lane. Bowman has a run off turn two, he swings to the inside into turn three, Bowman leads.

Lap 171, Bowman runs high down the front stretch and Hamlin closes right to his bumper. Hamlin looks to the inside in turn one and he takes the lead. Bowman just handed it to him.

78 to go, the caution is out for debris.

Green, Hamlin and Truex Jr run even into turn one. Hamlin noses ahead off turn two. They form four wide for 2nd! DiBenedetto pops out in 2nd.

53 to go, Austin Dillon hits the pit lane under green. He’s lost a water pump belt. The hood is up on the playoff contender.

35 to go

35 to go, green flag pit stops are underway. Bowman pits.

34 to go, Hamlin pits from the race lead. Bowman drives by as Hamlin is on his out lap. Pitting a lap earlier brought the pass.

32 to go, the caution is out for debris. Kurt Busch leads, he’s yet to pit. Many are now trapped a lap down.

The non-pitters head for the lane. The lap down cars take the wave around and join behind the cars that had yet to pit. Matt DiBenedetto will lead them to the restart. Bowman is 10th after it’s all sorted, Hamlin 11th.

Green, DiBenedetto and Kurt Busch run even in turn one and off turn two. Several rows back, Bowman and Hamlin run four wide. DiBenetto and Kurt Busch nearly rub doors in turn three. Buescher pushes Kurt Busch as they return to turn one, Kurt Busch leads.

17 to go, John Hunter Nemechek is around and the caution is out!

Hamlin pits from 11th, Harvick from 12th, Keseowski, Truex Jr and others head for the pit lane. The top 10 stay out.

Green, Kurt Busch gets the jump and clears DiBenedetto before turn one.

Bowman splits Newman and Bell for 3rd.

10 to go

10 to go, Hamlin has climbed to 6th on 15 lap fresher tires!

9 to go, Bell brushes the wall off turn two, no caution.

8 to go, Hamlin to 4th.

7 to go, William Byron is around as he gets into the back of Bell and the caution is out.

Green, Kurt Busch gets the jump and he’s clear before turn one. Hamlin to the inside of Bowman for 3rd into turn three.

White flag, Hamlin and Dibenedetto run side by side for 2nd as Kurt Busch opens the gap.
