NASCAR Playoff Points after Las Vegas Motor Speedway: September 2020

A surprise winner shakes up the standings of the NASCAR Playoffs

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series unloaded at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The NASCAR Playoffs are currently in the round of 12 stage.

Four drivers were already eliminated after last week at Bristol. Now, the next two races will eliminate four more. Win and you automatically advance into the next round.

Three races set the round of 12. Those tracks include: Vegas; Talladega; Charlotte Roval. After the race at Charlotte in two weeks, four drivers under the cutline will be eliminated.

Las Vegas

Kurt Busch hasn’t won a race since Kentucky of 2019. On Sunday, he drove to victory lane at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

A series of late race cautions mixed up the running order. With about 20 laps to go, a caution waved in the middle of a green flag pit cycle.

For the cars that were at the front all day, they were now trapped a lap down. For Kurt Busch, he became the race leader as he had yet to begin his pit cycle.

Many of those same cars pitted with 10 to go. However, Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick were unable to touch the leader.

Kurt Busch will now automatically advance into the Round of 8. 11 more drivers are fighting for the remaining 7 positions in the next round.

Next races in this round: Outside of Vegas, this is a wildcard round. Talladega Superspeedway and the Charlotte Roval, anything can happen in the next two races.
